Wouldn't touch a 10 megapixel unknown brand your far better getting a well known name with less megapixels i'm certain a 5 or 6 megapixel cannon fuji olympus etc will be far better than a benq 10 megapixel.

I do agree, I always reccommend the kodaks from pc world for £69, I have one and its great, however i was trying to point out for that sort of money a camera with more and better qualities than 5mp can be bought.

p.s. benq are an established make, and have been making cameras for years!

So what GOOD quality model number would you recommend?

I like kodak, but every time I recommend it, as always with HUKD I get shot down in flames by everyone.

I have a kodak, it does what it says on the tin, I have used other makes (fuji, canon) and haven't enjoyed the simplicity I do with kodak. Although I want a point and shoot, get great photos type camera. I suppose it comes down to what you want from your camera....but for £100 you can have a full choice of the facilities and makes you want

I'm afraid most people want pictures of high quality and simplicity....with the Fuji you get both.

Tonight I will take a picture in a room with just a single low watt bulb in the corner using no flash....you do the same with your kodak and we'll compare results.

Fuji menu system for selecting different features is ****. I've used it and hated it. However the kodak reviews may say its not very good, however I have one...I have used it....its good, its easy, and it does what I want it to do. Like I said, it depends what you want out of a camera. I agree on paper the Fuji F20 is probably a better camera, however I (me, myself, one (not a review)) have used a fuji, didn't like it I found if you wanted to do simple editing it was a long drawn out procedure. I recommend kodaks, as I moved to one after the fuji and found it so simple. I recently updated to the kodak I pointed out above and again, its easy to use functions outweigh the benefits the fuji F20 will offer, as for what I want a camera for I don't get on with Fuji's.

I will say again, it depends what you want your camera for,
it depends what you want your camera for
it depends what you want your camera for
it depends what you want your camera for
it depends what you want your camera for!!!!

I want to point shoot and it be easy to use....kodak does that. Fuji doesn't do it quite as well.

My great gran could use an F20 - it's idiot proof. Just set it al to auto and take the pic....as for editing....why on earth would you want to do that on the camera ?
#12
I had a kodak the big mispriced one a few years back it looked like a £4 plastic throw away one but took excellent pictures only 3.2 megapixel too.Iv'e also had a couple of fuji's but now have a Panasonic Lumix fz7 which is brilliant.
#13
The Panni's are lovely camera's with a superb lens but slightly out of category here as they are little bulky and well over £100. At the £150+ mark for an good all rounder I start recommending the FZ range.

Clearly reiterated my comments there mikeyw, thanks for suggesting I'm stupid, but lets bring something into context here.... I said it 5 times in my last post and it still didn't get through that thick skull of yours.

Hey cool they've upgraded the look of the F20
#17
Now now people, surely this thread is supposed to be helping out the OP, why not see whether they are too bothered about ease of use, or whether they feel that they would be capable of using most of the digital cameras on the market. I'm afraid UltimoScorpion that I have to side with my namesake on this one and go for the F20 - if you can find it for £79 then it's the best deal at the moment, if not then maybe consider a Canon Powershot, also very good camera, although not as good as the Fuji in bad light conditions.

Whats the opinion when comparing the
F20 (£80ish) and the S5700 (£113)
is the extra worth it??

I've not actually used either, so probably not the best person to comment, but I'd gues that it depends very much on what you want it for. The F20 is much more compact and better as a point and shoot for everyday use (like the OP has requested) whereas the S5700 has a huge zoom lens. I'd guess that the F20 might acually take better pictures in low light conditions but that the S5700 may offer more for the creative photographer. I think the S5700 also uses AA batteries, which some people prefer to the Li-ion battery of the F20.

I'm more than happy to be corrected on any or all of the above:whistling:
#20
Pretty much how Mike73 put it, just to also add the S5700 has the benefits of being able to use SD Cards aswell as XD (which are generally cheaper to XD).

Also, I am not sure if the F20 does movies with sound, but the S5700 definitely does.

Also, completely agree with others when saying the Mega Pixels is not that important, lens first everytime, Fuji have the best lenses for these type of cameras IMO.
#21
The F20 movies do have sound and are quite incredible - again down to the wonderful low light sensor used by the fuji.
#22
I have a 3.2 mega pixel kodak easysharec300 and its great the pictures are good quality does the job for me.:)

Who in their right mind uses dark age methods like this

Anyone with half a brain uses a £5 xd card reader and use the camera for what's it's designed for ie taking pics.

You really are clutching at very short straws :giggle: :giggle:

Do beko do washing machines? Bush TV's give me some credit, I don't think you can match Bush TV's to Kodak Digital Cameras...Kodak and institutional company that has been in operation since the beginning of photography itself.

....and like I said originally, ease of use to be had with the Kodak, you can hook it up directly to the PC (or mac) or you can use a £5 card reader.

The Kodak is such a wonderful, easy to use camera, I would recommend it anytime :-D
#29
fuji F20 seems to be the best you can get at the moment for that budget.

i'll be buying one aswell after reading a few reviews. looks a great piece of kit.

whats the maximum memory the wee blighter will take?

I have both Kodak and a Fuji Camera's, the Fuji is streets ahead on build quality and results.;-)

I dont dispute this however we have discovered that the Kodak are superior on 'mounting' and ease of use. :-D

I have the Kodak camera I recommended and my opinion is that its a really great camera for the price, its easy to use and takes great pictures. I have never suggested there are not better cameras on the market for a few pounds more, however my experience of fuji hasn't been fantastic in the past so why would I recommend that to someone?

This is a fairly basic concept of recommendation, I am simply recommending an alternative to the F20. I respect your opinions, and would fight for the right for you to have them, however I will also fight for my own opinion and the ability to express them, without being told I'm wrong. I am not wrong we just have differing opinions. It is now up to NickMax1 to make his mind up on which camera to buy.
#32
My main cam is a Nikon D40 and am very pleased with it but as my second cam I can't get over the quality and VFM of the F20. In Macro mode I'm getting better results than the D40 & kit lens on the macro setting (admittedly a dedicated macro lens on the D40 would soon change this...probably 3x the cost of the F20 though)

Put us out of our misery nickmax1 and tell us what you are considering after all this advice/squabbling!!! lol

I don't recall saying anyone was " wrong " I just made a factual statement based on my own hands on experience of both brands.

i have a fuji 5600, its a 5mp, and takes great pics and the macro mode is fantastic.
Battery life is great, i get about 800 shots from a set of 1700 energeizer rechargeables and the movie mode is full 640*480 30fps and looks great when played back on the box!
#36
I've got a Fuji F31fd. Same sensors as the F20/f30 etc. It is fantastic especially if you are lookning to take a number of pictures indoors. In the gadget show test the Fuji camera came out top in every section of the test. There was a link to the video on the Fuji site not sure if it is still there.
