Looking to get a pc base unit form comet with 15% off.

Looking for it to play high defention files. So would want it to play these very easily with no trouble.

So I would assume a good cpu is needed and good memory and hard drive and grpahics to do this.

I will be putting it next to my plasma downstairs so maybe a wireless mouse and keyboard is needed or could I control it with a remote?

I bought the acer for £246 with mine :)

It has hdmi output 3gb ram win7 and a 640gb hdd.

Processor is an athlon x2 but the system is cheap and cheerful, not sure if it helps you tho :)

Will it be able to run high defenitaion films without any stuttering etc?

Not to fussed on playing the top top games, just might want to do some video decoding to different formats too?

Reckon thats any good?

Have you got the link?

Ive not actually turned it on yet but I picked it up from instore this afternoon. Despite what the voucher says about not being valid for instore purchases it all went through fine.

Here it is...

Might actually nip down to COMET and check them all out. Can I fit my own dvd writers in there or blu ray drive?

This system has onboard graphics. The GPU involved doesn't have native HD decoding (9200M). If you want native HD decoding you need Nvidia 8400/9400 series upwards or the never 100 series upwards. As for ATI then integrated is HD series (might be labeled HD3200/HD4200 or chipset 780G/785G). For dedicated graphics the same rules apply for Nvidia and for ATI any that have a 'HD' suffix.

So this is no good to run HD files?

Well the processor is reasonably fast and the 9200 is not to bad so 720p and low bit rate 1080p should play, but as you will be putting a lot of stress on the CPU it will be loud and it won't manage blu-ray.

Also missed out on the compatible HD onboard video, how could I forget intel's 4500HD.

Well looking at the Acer site the description for this model it only has Nvidia 7100 onboard GPU, which is very out of date now. The ones for sale on ebay also state this.

Aspire X1301 Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium , AMD ATHLON II 215 Dual Core, 1TB Hardisk, 4GB DDR2 RAM, DVD RW, nVIDIA® GeForce 7100 up to 1024MB, Wired Kybd & opt mouse, 19" X193HQ TFT Screen

You could always add a HD compatible graphics card to it like (here) you just need to go by the rules above and make sure it's a low profile card to fit the case. Most of the low level cards have no fan (passive cooling) which is good for low noise when watching HD movies.

Can I ask then what you recommend for me then to play HD files smoothly?

Western Digital HD media player

what about this if I connect my external hard drive to it?

I don't know if it helps but the graphics on the acer are the nvidia 9100.
