I was thinking of taking my daughter to Chester Zoo for her 1st Birthday but it is in 2 weeks and think it'll be a bit cold. Does anyone have any good suggestions for days out we are midlands area.

Do you have any aquariums nearby?

Great for most 1yr olds and inside ;-)
Yes there is one by chester zoo, but they don't really last very long, it would be over in a couple of hours. Wanted more of a day thing
Severn Valley Railway from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth is good. Warm inside too. Little ones quite often like the steam and looking into the firebox certainly fascinated all of my daughters at a very young age.

If driving there it's best to park somewhere in Bridgnorth, a really nice old town with a year round funicular linking the upper town (shops and so forth) with the lower town (walk round to rail station 5-10 minutes).

Or there's always Cadburys at Bournville www.cadburyworld.co.uk
i know its not what your asking for but as its yor daughters first birthday here is a thread for decorations etc if you havent got them already http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/321454/baby-girls-1st-birthday-party-bundl/
Thanks for the offer but my Mums friend used to work for Gibsons greeting and i received a lot of Ellie stuff and got some stuff in Woolies sale.

sealife centre birmingham.

i won't go to a zoo this time of year, the animals will all be hiding from the cold.
I know it is a bit cold, i would spend all my time in the reptile house!!!!
What is sealife in Birmingham like? I have been to the Chester one a few times, is the one in Birmingham bigger?
hi nikki
how about the think tank in birmingham. there are different activities. not sure what this month though. always worth researching. we went in 6 wks holiday. kids a bit older but there were plenty of lil ones there having fun!!!
Thomas land is open in the half term. To be honest for a first birthday I would go to a local play barn / warehouse in this weather. That's what I did for my now 4 year old, or stoke swimming pool with the waves and slides etc.
there is a lovely childrens farm, a lot of which is under cover. Its in middleton, near tamworth.
Its a fantastic place for kids of all ages, they can pet and feed the animals, they always have baby animals, have a horse ride etc. I was used to have my birthday parties there when i was a nipper, we have our daughter there lots too, it was always her favourite place to visit.

here is a link to their website
At Chester Zoo there's still lots to do and see on a cold day ... for indoors animals, there's the tropical house, the bat cave, the newly opened butterfly house (lovely 30 degrees C mmmmmm), the monkey house, the orangutans, the endangered islands exhibit .... so you could actually spend a good amount of time inside - just popping out to see the main animals like the lions and elephants.

But I wonder whether it's worth such a long drive ... I agree with wookiemummy that your daughter would probably have as much fun at a playbarn - then you could always pop to your local pet store to see the rabbits - much cheaper !!
