My knowledge of computers is not great so am asking you guys for a bit of help.

I currently have a desktop pc but need to convert due to lack of space.

I like the idea of a 2 in 1 to use as laptop on table and tablet on sofa.

I want to store all my music, videos and pictures on it (currently 350gb but growing) and edit the photos on Photoshop.

It will not be used for gaming.

I have been into currys and from this think my requirements are:

2 in 1 laptop

13-14" screen

1tb hdd

I think this kind of thing fits the bill:

Main question is do you want a convertible (as in the one you listed above) or a detachable (such as the Surface Pro or Galaxy Pro S)? The positive with the convertible is that it's a 'true' laptop in that mode thanks to the hinged screen, but that they can be a little bulky in tablet mode making them uncomfortable for holding over extended periods.

Detachables are becoming more popular, and work pretty well in both modes - but once again will be a little heavier than a normal tablet. The 'weakness' I've found with them is that when used as a laptop they take up a bit more space than an actual laptop on desks due to the propped up nature of the keyboard stand. The Galaxy S Pro was outstanding value at £499 recently but seems to have gone up so the Surface Pro 4 currently wins on deals.

Thing to bear in mind with most of these devices is that they're mostly 12" rather than the bigger screen you want but most of the time you wouldn't really notice.

thanks for the input. I originally liked the convertible ones but after your comments I think either would be fine

I have had two detachable 2 in 1's and sold them both. I won't be buying another. Whilst the concept is ok I found them a little frustrating in using them. The first one only had a fixed position when in laptop mode and the second I felt I would break the screen if I pushed it too far back. What I bought in the end was a Lenovo Yoga. Perfect for my needs with its 360 degree hinge system so it can be used as a laptop with screen in any position, a tablet and I particularly like the tent mode which is perfect for watching videos. I wouldnt buy a detachable again no matter how good or how cheap it was. I bought the yoga 300 as an Argos refurb. I will be looking at upgrading it for another Lenovo possibly yoga 3 pro or similar at 13". If I needed that extra inch though I would go with your suggestion. This is the fifth Lenovo product I have bought and all have been decent quality products.

thanks for your view. another question I have is a lot of new laptops seem to have small ssd's instead of large hdd's. Where do people tend to store their photos/music etc on these smaller ssd laptops?

I only ever had one laptop fail on me and never a hard drive fail (luckily) but I store all my material on external HDD's. I usually wait for the Toshiba ones to come on offer on Tesco. I bought a couple 500gb ones for about £28.00 at different times and last one was a 1tb for about £35.00. I find it's better that way as they are always portable and because they don't get used very often they should last for years. I find windows pc's seem to slow down with age. Not sure if that's because of continuous use or the drive filling up so made a decision years ago to store most of my pictures on external drives. It makes it easier if I want to do a re-install of windows as well. Storage is cheap these days. My dad'd old pc broke due to a motherboard failure and that had a 1tb drive in it so I just bought a cheap external drive from amazon and stuck the drive in that to give me some extra storage. Not as portable as the 2.5" toshiba ones I mentioned earlier but the storage is handy.

OK that is making me feel it would be better to get a smaller ssd laptop with additional external hard drive (s). so if I had all my photos on an external drive what method would I use to back up those photos? I'm guessing another external drive or online? sorry for all the questions but not very clued up as current pc is quite old now.

Yes, there is cloud storage. I am sure its safe unless you are famous lol. I only use cloud storage for my phone contacts. I have a large memory card in my phone and just transfer them to my external drive when I remember lol. I use a mac at home for my main laptop. I use the Yoga for things I need windows for and car diagnostics. On the mac I have a permanent external drive plugged in which backs up every day.

If I was going to buy a new laptop today I would want it to have an ssd as it's main drive. I don't have a problem with conventional drives but ssd's are faster. The main thing I don't like about the laptop you picked is it has an AMD processor. I don't like them. I can't give you any specific reason why, I just think intel processors are better.

I would pick this one instead. It's £50.00 more but worth it for the i5 processor in my opinion. It may be cheaper elsewhere.

Yes, back up on external drive or cloud storage.
