I went to Dubai in 2003 and you didn't need a Visa then - pretty sure you don't need one now either (my sister goes most years).

All of the hotels on Jumeria beach are great to stay at - very high standard. Do you want a beach holiday or to be near the shops? The beach hotels are very luxurious, all have private beach area and pools, and several restaurants where you can eat/drink. Alcohol is expensive but food isn't too badly priced.

It is cheaper to stay in the city hotels which are nearer the airport/main shopping malls. These too are usually a good standard (lots of branded hotels like Sheraton, Hilton etc) and have a pool and obviously you then get the option of walking out of the door to places which you don't really get at the beach resorts.

Just checked online here:

no visa required for UAE if staying less than 60 days.

Post more details if you want to discuss hotels some more . . .

Thanks, Kimburlee  rep left, the situation is I am not a British National and I think I most definately require a Visa, about the Hotels, I am okay staying in the city as price is a factor, I would love to stay near the beach, but just cannot afford it, I think :-( would you know of any clean 3 or 4* hotels near the city ?

I think you need to contact the embassy who issued your passport to get a Visa to travel then. Some embassys now have the facilities to do that online.

Any of the branded hotels in the city are ok but probably more expensive than 'local names'. I haven't seen inside any local hotels so cannot recommend any - all I would suggest is once you have found the name of a hotel that seems like a good price, try the review websites (holidaywatchdog.com for example). You could also pop to a local bookstore and try looking in the Rough Guides book on Dubai to see if they recommend any budget accomodation.

Hope you get it sorted - it's a great place to go for a short trip!
