depends really, if you have friends over most of the time and like fun games then its the wii, if you like watchin movies and pics and go online are more of a serious gamer and like playing online then the ps3 as online is free. if u like halo xbox 360

i do have friends round but i dont have my own place so i dont like havin them round loads which i imagine if i had a wii can get a bit boring playin on your own!

yeh thats true but it is bit childish and ps3 has more adult rated games.

The situation at the moment is:

Wii = fun with mates but not many games out at the mo for a more long lived experience
xbox 360 = the most games + the best games (Halo 3...coming soon)
PS3 = one for the future, lacking in games now but is by far the most powerful of the 3 and has the most potential.

So for now I'd go for a 360, but if you don't mind waiting for games then Wii or PS3 are more likely to be winners in the long run.

Xbox 360 is very unreliable but sadly has the best games and in direct comparision with ps3 games the 360 normally looks the best. However the PS3 is decently made and of course a blu ray player. The wii is only 50% faster than the gamecube and a lot of that is swallowed up by the new wii controller which requires extra code in games.

The PS3 is not selling as well as expected and it will be difficult to hold its price point.

To be honest its a crap time to buy a console at the moment for various reasons.

If I had £300 to spend I'd probably build a dual core PC base unit with parts from somewhere like ebuyer. £300 would enable you to build a pretty brilliant gaming pc if you choose wisely. However that £300 doesn't include a monitor but if you have a hdmi equipped tv you can get a dvi to hdmi cable and a wireless keyboard/trackball to make a big screen gaming system.

I have to disagree. A £300 PC will not compete with an xbox 360 or PS3 for gaming. Also... "xbox 360 is very unreliable"... not sure what you mean there.

Actually there are a lot of problems with 360's failing, Google it if you fancy a heart attack, but I wouldn't let that bother you too much as it's usually within the guarantee period.

Go for the 360 mate, and make sure you get Xbox Live. It's great!

I wouldn't agree there, Resistance: Fall of Man (a PS3 launch title) looks on a par with (or very close to) Gears of War (a mature 360 title). Now if you take Gears of War and compare it to 360 launch titles like Kameo: Elements of Power etc. the difference is massive, so just imagine what the PS3 will do given the same time to mature.......

Depends what you mean by compete as a overclocked dual core with a lower midrange graphics card is pretty sweet at standardish resolutions for even the lastest games plus you have a truly massive back catalogue for minimal money . The 360 is a reliability nightmare and renowned for it in the trade.

I don't own either so I'm not biased but I've read loads of info stating the 360 is still looking better visually in direct comparision but thats multiformat titles available on both generally rather than comparing similar but different titles. There is no doubt the PS3 will shine later on as its more complicated to understand and program and will take time to learn but in the real world the 360 will probably be superior visually for quite some time yet.
