2G RAM required for laptop

Hi guys

I brought a laptop from ASDA on tues for £275.00 (see link below). I was contemplating on taking it back because some peops said that this is not such a hot deal, but I decided to keep it and upgrade the RAM. This is because it only has 512mb RAM but can be upgraded to 2G (2x1G)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91099&highlight=acer

Can anyone recommend a good deal here :? . I want to do this to make it run faster, I heard that this is a good move because Vista makes the laptop really slow.

I want to spend max around £50 for 2x 1G's

Thanks

Not sure what your brother means by it having 333Mhz as that's in the DDR realm, DDR2 is 533Mhz and 667Mhz. Even if your laptop can't handle the 667 which is PC2-5300 it'll automatically downgrade to the PC2-4200 :)

You really want to get some "DDR2 PC2-5300" and unbuffered.

Crucial have it for £61.09 delivered special delivery
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=9E0E03A2A5CA7304

Ebuyer have the same Crucial Stuff for £57.46 with free but slow delivery
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119282

and for £55.98 you can get some OCZ stuff which I've heard is good
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/124725

If you have a hexus.net account with 20 posts you can get free delivery on Scan for some Corsair Value stuff which is £56.04
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=462693

Of course have a look around ebuyer and scan etc. as these are examples, but never go cheap on RAM, don't want to make your laptop unstable :)

This stuff is really good, its what I got. Has lifetime warrenty too, and Corsair are really good top quality memory.

Get it here:

When I bought it, it was £46.21 but its went up a bit now :S

I think my brother may have mentioned 533 instead of 333, sorry my fault! :whistling:

Thanks for the advice guys, I don't mind waiting for the RAM so ebuyer is fine. I had a problem with dabs once when i ordered something and there was a prob with my bank details, all my other accounts with other places are ok though :?

Cheers

if you are running vista you can check Windows experience Index to work out your PCs performance - the results should tell you whether it's worth upgrading RAM. If you aren't running vista, then I wouldn't bother upgrading.

There are more programs than vista that need RAM, Photoshop, AutoCAD, and Games are a few. But it never hurts to have more, will speed up XP significantly as it will use less virtual memory

Processer is rated 4.7

yes, agreed. i'm not a gamer and don't use these kind of apps. I upgraded my laptop running XP to 2GB and it showed no obvious improvement at all from 1GB, so I sold on 1GB. To be fair, my useage is limited to basic ops and a few specialist pieces of academic software.

Vista is fine, but if you want your laptop to be speedier go with XP, pretty easy really, just put the disc in the drive, boot up with the CD/DVD drive and follow the commands :)
