Recently our dimplex 2kw convector heater packed up
Was 11 months old and cost us £50
We spotted one with good reviews at screwfix for £20
Now , the dimplex one we used on 1kw power setting and temperature around half
It heated our cabin very well
The cheaper one is set on setting two which is 1.25kw and half way but only just takes the chill out the air
I would have assumed both being on similar power setting 1kw/1.25kw they would throw out a similar amount of heat
Both are similar size
But the cheaper one is nowhere near as warm
Or are these cheap ones just a waste of time

It could be the heaters are only approximately as stated or maybe the older ones half setting was over half way but whatever the reason it looks like you need either another or a replacement.

I doubt the efficiency between the two can be very different, most likely the thermostats have different settings, that means the new one turns off the heating element more often or for longer periods than the old one,

They are so different in the warmth its very strange hence the question
Dimplex definatly on 1kw setting and stat on 3 out of 6
Screwfix one on 1.25kw and bang on half way on the temperature
Just been out to the cabin and its only taken the chill out the air
Where as before you could feel it was warm and often turned the temp down to 2 out of 6
Was curious if the cheap ones are just rubbish
Or if i have a duff unit
Just doesnt seem to warm the area as much
Seems like its underpowered and dont want to run it at full whack 24 hours a day
Edit......
Its hasnt clicked off yet and has been on since 1pm this afternoon

don't forget this week is colder than normal.
ambient temperature take longer to heat up when its colder, and you may think the heater is not doing the job probably.
#6
as ho5dow said ambient temperature. Also 1kw is the power used not the heat given out. It's the same as vacuum cleaners an 1800w cleaner might not have as much suction power as a 1000w one but it'll use up 1800w no mater. So if its bad at converting electricity to heat then it'll be bad at heating no matter the kilowattage

Your Dimplex was still under gaurantee? 8)

Dimplex one under guarantee but they didnt have anymore
Hence looking for a quick replacement
Think as mentioned its bad at converting electricity to heat
Goes to show you cant believe all reviews
Think ill buy another dimplex heater
Cheers all
