3 contract coming to an end, help needed

My 3 contract is due to expire 17th Nov. Wanting to get the best deal possible with them again. Currently pay equiv. to £15 a month for 500 mins & 100 texts. I remember reading a thread a while back on here about 3 contracts and some people trying to cancel and then getting offered 12mths free on a 12 mth contract. Has anybody done this lately and if so how did you go about it. And also how are you supposed to cancel, is it in writing or over the phone, I know it is 30 days in advance that is why im posting this now. By the way not wanting to go for cashback deals, had them with dialaphone before with no hassle but keep hearing too many bad things about other companies.Any help would be appreciated. Thank's in advance.

What ever you do , DONT get a phone from "The mobile outlet" I have seen so many horror stories about these guys ity is untrue.
Your best bet is to just tell your service provider you want to cancel and they will offer you more text's and mins or a slightly lower price plan, oh and make sure you get a new hand set :)

Just go through 3 m8 they are desperate to keep customers trust me they will meet your demands

They should offer you something along the lines of:

No new mobile
£20/25/£30/month tariff on new 12month contract
with the promise of £235/£295/£355 credit when the new contract starts, resulting in £5 for the entire year or similar, might be a bit less credit working out at £5/m depending.

Be sure you appear to have been a heavy user on your last months, what is what im doing on my 3 phone right now using up all mins/sms

Last year i rang to cancel and got the whole year for £5 500 minutes and i forget how many texts think it was 150, i rang about 4 weeks back to cancel two contracts and got 300 mins 150 texts and some video message downloads etc for £5 a month,Iv'e been a very low user never text and probably no more than 20 minutes a month calls. So you don't need to be a heavy user to get a good deal.

One of my contracts has just come to an end and I wanted the £5 a month deal but they wouldn't budge on it. Best I could get was £10 a month after quoting a 12 month free cashback deal on 02. Even this took several phone calls to their retentions department. I've ended up changing that contract to PAYG, as it's very light useage. They said the £5 a month deal finished in July, which is when I got it on another of my contracts.

I believe the trick is to let them chase you, you chase them and THESE DAYS you won't get as good a deal as before.

My contract is up in November, so in just over a week I;m going to be asking for a pac but leaving the phone on (it's a spare contract, for now)
Come the last 2 weeks of the pac apprantely they call you and offer you agood deal, if that doesn't happen to me in the last 7days I'll be using the pac on one of my many spare payg sims.

I wish you better luck than I had. I did the same, my PAC expires on Monday but I never got a single call from them. On my contract that expired in July, I was getting calls daily in the last couple of weeks.

Good Luck!

That can't allowed to continue in the near future imo.

Pre xmas the contract offers become VERY attractive, it's in every networks interest to retain customers now and november compared to the rest of the year.

My contract ended with 3 a few months ago. I told them I was going onto O2 PAYG, which was £10 a month for 300 texts (I don't really use my phone to make calls) but they wouldn't match it, and in fact after few phonecalls, they kept giving me worse offers each time (£15 for 100 mins 100 texts but no new phone, then it was £20 for the same, then £25 for the same but with discount on new phone). It was very weird.

Bristol, keep an eye out 2nd half of November/early December for mobile contract deals you can pac into, but they will be cashback deals.
#12
Thanks schizoboy, but I'm fine on the 02 PAYG. Got a free phone ages ago (with that whole weird glitch 02 had on their website) and the £10 per month with texts is exactly what I need. For some reason it even went up to 500 texts per month last month. I'm paying £180 less per year than I did with 3, with a better phone and a more suitable package! :)

I rang to cancel my two contracts a week apart the first time they offered me £5 a month, when i rang a week later to cancel my second one they also told me that the £5 one had finished and best they could offer was £10 a month,So i said just cancel it then she went away for a couple of minutes and guess what when she came back she had managed to get me the £5 offer.I was quiet happy cancelling both contracts anyway as i said i use very little minutes or texts.I think if you are really going to cancel they will bend over backwards to keep you.
#15
what is pac? as my contract with 02 is up at the end of oct
#16
Porting Authorisation Code (people tend to say PAC code like they say PIN number) - it's a code your new service provider needs if you want to bring your existing mobile number with you.
#17
Thank's to everbody who has replied and commented on this thread, will wait until 1 mth b4 contract ends then give them a ring. Does anybody know the appropriate phone number and if I leave it to 30 days before and decide to cancel my contract will I have to let them know in writing, thus incurring 1 more mth on to my contract.:?
#18
They will cancel over phone but i would always send a letter recorded so theres no argument.123 on your mobile will get you through.

just rang up today to cancel mine as it ends next week.currently the £5 for 300 minutes has fiinished and to get this now it is £10. also majority of the offers they were giving me were not that brilliant and were the same as what is on the website. got my pac code now but gonna see if they ring up to offer a better deal

I cancelled my three contract of 2 years (just hit 23months with them, giving 1month notice etc) yesterday.

Anyone remember the Nokia 6630 on DTT 600 deal from TheLink for 12months free rental and £50 profit and quidco in Nov 2005?
That was my 1st Three contract, got offered ****** £5/year 100mins/100sms in Oct 06 which i took.

She was adament to get me to upgrade on a cheap £5/£10 tariff, I said no.

Then offered I take a PAC code to my new provider (which doesn't exist, this is a spare contract I virtually never use), I said no.

Then suggested I become a PAYG customer etc, I said no.

Said no to all and finally got confirmation that come early November this contract will be dead.

The phone will be staying off until late late October where I might turn it on and see if they call me and offer me the decent retention deals everyone else seems to get at the last minute otherwise adios Three.

I have a question if I request my PAC code do I have a certain amount of time to use it and then my phone gets turned off or is it like an internet mac code where if you dont use it the contract keeps running. I know it limits me in terms of upgrades if get it which is why i've been puting it off. Think I might hang about for a month or so and see how contracts look then.

Simplicity for a short while wont kill me.
#22
I suspect if you do not use the PAC code your contract/server continues, usage of the pac confirms your cancellation of your service, aiui just so long as you understand you still owe the service provider 1month, minimum, from the time you ask for your service to be cancelled and ask for the pac.
#23
If you request your PAC code, you have 30 days in which to use it. If you do NOT use it, you will remain on your current tariff/cost until you CANCEL.

I found this last week with Orange. You cannot request PAC code AND cancel, you can do one or the other.

So, get PAC code and move within 30 days or cancel the contract on 30 days notice.

BTW, the number for 3, is 333 from your handset, not 123

Three cancellations > 1 > 5 > 3 :)

Three cancellations > 1 > 5 > 3 :)
Lol, sounds like you have been there a lot? :giggle:
#26
Only twice, just recently is all, once for a relatives contract and once for mine :)

And that should be Dial 333 1 > 5 > 3

I had my ocntract renewed with them in july. I was trying to cancel at first but they offered a contract of £360 a year (£30 pm on 100txts and 500 cross network minutes) with £330 cashback. and this cash back was in form of credit to my account and not one of those where you have to send your bills to get the money. Only condition was that they would not offer a new mobile. I was happy to keep my old one. So £2.50 a month line rental was too good to refuse for me.

i rang today to cancel. best offer was 15 a month with a sony 3.2 pixel camera phone, so requested a pac and got it 2 mins later. shame because i would of taken a 5er a month
