You'll need to be with 3 for a month before to get the Feel at Home deal.
That's not true when it comes to pay as you go, dancedar. Feel at home can be used abroad immediately on a pay as you go sim. However, when used abroad, the monthly data allowance is limited to 25gb per month, and tethering is not allowed while abroad.
with pay as you go, you need to buy a bundle. not sure if these pre-loaded data allowances quite count as that - they seem like they do but they might get you on a technicality.

Skype and viber don't use much data so 25gb is more than sufficient for those needs unless you're on the phone for 10 hours a day, every day (in which case, why are you in florida!!).
You would need to make sure you have data roaming switched on before you leave the UK. You would have to ring 3 to do this, as simply switching it on via your phone is not enough. Also, I think you need to check the price, as the £15 deal no longer exists. They increased their prices earlier this year as part of a restructuring thing they did.
Many thanks for the great advice Borofan, but can you explain the data roaming bit, I.e having to get on the phone to 3 to enable data roaming, why can't I just turn it on on my iPhone and why do I need it switched on ? Cheers
You need to get 3 to activate data roaming on your account to allow your phone to connect to foreign networks. If you don't do this, your data won't work in the States (or anywhere else abroad for that matter). Just give 3 a call on 333 free of charge from your phone and explain where you are going, and then ask if they will activate the roaming on your account. Also, activate it on the iPhone itself so that you are all ready to go when you get there. I assume your iPhone is either unlocked, or locked to 3, otherwise your 3 sim won't work in the phone. I know it may sound obvious, but best to check these things. One other point you need to know. When you connect to a US partner network, you may get a notification telling you the cost of calls, texts and data. This is a known issue with 3, but you can rest assured that you won't be charged.
To ensure you don't get charged for usage abroad, ask 3 to zero rate your sim. They may not do this on a 1 month sim, but there's no harm in asking. Zero rating means you can only use the allowances on the sim, so if you run out of minutes, for example, you'll not be able to make any more calls. Switch off delivery reports for both sms and mms, as they are chargeable both in the UK and overseas. Be aware that calls and texts are only included for UK numbers. This means that if you call a us number you'll be charged roaming rate for the call. This applies to calls received from US numbers, and texting US numbers is charged at roaming rate too.
