32" LCD Deal / Advice: Samsung LE32R87BDX/XEU

Hi,

I'm after a good 32" LCD for Xbox 360 use and freeview TV use... went into Comet today and saw the Samsung LE32R87BDX/XEU for £649, but the guy said he'd match online price of £579. Anyway, on Johnlewis.com after quidco and a voucher it's £600, with 5 year guaranty included in price.

I've seen that DABS amongst other online 'e-tailers' have this TV for £480ish, but I'm a bit sceptical getting it from them, with no money back warranty other than the manufacturer's one.

So.. couple of questions..

(i) What 32" LCD would people recommend for gaming use? Guy in shop said the samsung mentioned above would be great, plus looks like a nice TV..
(ii) Regardless of TV, are stores like dabs.com good (particular concern is with guaranty if faulty, with JL there are never any questions asked and it's full refund / replace..). Of all of the TVs I've had over the years (all CRT based displays) and LCD monitor TFTs, I've never had any problems, so not sure if my concern with a guaranty is that valid, as they rarely seem to go wrong? (unlike fridges etc etc).

Any comments / suggestions / prices gratefully appreciated!! Many thanks in anticipation and great work again on a great site.

Hiya Polak,

Well i just bought this TV after doing weeks of research on HD LCD Tv's... first thing it's fantastic, can't fault it (mind you i've only had it a few days).

From my reading i found that the best TV's in the 32" range is this TV plus the Sony one...sorry i forgot which one and the Panasonic lxd70...which has the best reviews out of the lot, but a tad more on the expensive side.

In terms of price, your best bet is to phone your local empire direct which have them for £499 at the mo, online price says £529 but thats gone up due to the discount code available. If you find out the availability you can phone your closest John Lewis and ask them to price match...as it comes with 5 years free guarantee.

You have to bear in mind that John Lewis don't price match with online retailers, so other shop/online retailers you can try are:

richersound and soundandvision

I bought mine from Costco for £481 with 3 year guarantee, my local empire directs didn't have them in stock, and well i got a little imaptient :-D

Good luck

Many thanks :-) Checked richersounds and it's not on there unfortunately, I just checked dixons and they have them for about £490 - 5% discount and some quidco (£455 in all). Then there's the guarantee on top to consider..

Great tips though, thanks for your help... I found another thread which listed a price-comparator for TVs, see link:

Thanks again!

Picked up the Samsung LE37S86 from Richer Sounds today for £625 which included a 5 year at home warrenty so they will come out and repair and if they cannot fix then its old ofr new plus got some LCD Tv cleaning kit free which should have been £10.

Great Tv as was planning to get a 32" but went for a 37" instead and glad i am

The TV should have been £723 with the warrenty and screen kit but haggled it down...lol
