im in the same boat as you! I'm looking for a 40" 1080p though, preferably a Sony because of the 3 year warranty.

I just bought a 40" Sony Bravia on special offer in M&S with 5 year guarantee. Was £859, on offer at £799. Got the last one, so got a 20% discount and a further vat discount at the til. Final price was about £627 ish. If you don't mind the discontinued model (which is actually very good) it might be worth asking in your local M&S to see what deal they will offer you. Mine was the 40w4000. Had some good reviews on here, which helped me to choose.

Forgot to say. Full HD. 1080p. Freeview. USB photo viewer. Picture frame mode.

Thats the one that I'm after! I was looking at the 40w5500 which has the 100hz but thats just too pricey for me. I also want the guarantee for peace of mind. I'll have to give M&S a call tommorow, thanks for your reply.

I'm not too fussed about last years model as long as the TV does justice for my Ps3. By the way, is there a picture in picture facility on the telly? And does your model have a similiar menu to the PS3?

I got carried away with Marks and Spencers, phoned my local one in Birmingham city centre and they said that they had a couple of Sony 40V4000 LCDs' on offer for £649 with 5 years guarantee.

Got carried away and bought one, came up to £635 with vat discount at the till. Not as good as the 40W4000 but has full HD, 24p, 3 hdmi etc and the guarantee is important to me. I would of preferred the 40W4000 but I'll have to make do with this one lol

They had one left and also the display one which they'll sell once the one from the stockroom is sold, give them a call, you never know, you might love it! The number for the Brum branch is 0121 6434511.

Good luck OP!

if you are mainly watching freeview and std def tv then get the 37" for picture quality
also need to take into consideration your room size and how far you sit from the tv normally
there is a good guide on c-net

got a 42" tesco brand. 1080 job, had it about 3 months and its great. was on offer for only £399. apparently they do the same deal every now and again, keep checking their stores. store only deal

Depends on what size your after to be honest. Generally, im pleased with my Sony 40V4000 TV, I know I could of got something better for the price but I was desperate as I was using a [email protected] wharfdale tv. Plus the 5 year guarantee was the big push for me, same kind of guarantee costs an arm and a leg in Currys, Comet, etc.

I would of purchased a Sony 40W5500 LCD TV if I could afford it but hey, what can you do! This has to be the daddy of LCDs in that price and the only real competitors are panasonic and pioneer, who by the way, are the true LCD and Plasma masters. But thats a total different ball game and budget range for a high spec tv.

What I would recommend to you is the 40W5500 which is £820 with 3 years guarantee.
Try http://www.digital-point.co.uk/index.php, they the 40W5500 and they're located in Birmingham.

Hope this helps

As someone else said it depends on your room size.
I'd go for a Panasonic plasma - there are some cracking deals out there at the moment but you'll have to do the legwork.
