I gave bought a 3DS XL from CEX (online). There is an SD card in the console, with NIBS written on it - this might stand for Nintendo Birmingham Store possibly (where it was bought from). The game 'Fire Emblem Awakening' is not showing up on the screen displays. I especially bought the boxed version as it said the game was included with the console - I don't particularly want to give my son the box now, as he's going to think that the game on the cover comes with it. Is there somewhere else to locate the game on the system - I looked at the eshop but it is for sale there for £39.99? I have emailed CEX but they take a while to reply, so just seeing if somebody else has had the same problem (is there somewhere where I can download it for free again)? Thank you.

CEX only sell pre-owned stuff, so the one you bought will no longer have the game included with it unfortunately as they only come with the console when new

When I was looking on their site at the consoles available, some of them were marked down as having (no game included), this was one of the consoles that did not say that - it has come with everything, the box, all paperwork, gift codes and cards and the SD card, so I don't understand why the game is not on the SD card?

It might not be the sd card that originally shipped with it when it was brand new?

I'd like to add, that I only bought this console as it was boxed and did not say that the pre-installed game would not be included - if the game is pre-installed on the console, surely it must be there somewhere?

If the console has had a full factory reset then the Game will have been wiped off the SD card, The previous owner may have also transferred it to another console. CEX reset all consoles traded in so the chance of you ending up with a free game is very slim. That being said I bought a Majoras Mask 3DS from them and went to buy the game on the eshop months later only to find I could download it for nothing. You can return it to store within 14 days for a refund if you only wanted it for the game though

That is what I am thinking - so surely CEX should not have advertised it the way that they did - if they were going to put in a blank SD card, they should have stated that the game was not included? Is there a way to check the SD card to see what is on it, if so, how do I do this? Thank you.

Wouldn't the pre-installed game be registered to the serial number of the console? If so, is there a way to download it again for free on the console (perhaps by contacting the company)?

The game would be tied to the Nintendo Account of the previous owner not the SD card

Like the Majora's Mask Edition that CEX also sell, that game comes pre-installed brand new. But they've actually put (NO GAME) in the title, probably just CEX made a mistake on the listing.

Check eshop, settings/other and I think there you see games you can redownload.

I have read this, but my point is, is that if they were not going to include the pre-installed game with the console, they should have marked it down on their website - they have only marked a few of this type of console (one that is supposed to have a pre-installed game on it) as not actually having the game included with the console. If they re-set all of the consoles, surely all of the consoles that are advertised as having a pre-installed game, should be marked down as having 'no game included' - this would stop any confusion. My son just wanted a blue console, but I paid quite a bit extra as this one was not advertised as not having the game included.

Well simply return the Fire Emblem 3DS XL and buy a Blue 3DS with a copy of the game?

Infact youve actually paid less and got a Limited Edition Console more likely to hold its value, The Version you bought was £148 and a standard Blue Console Boxed is £165

I've just had a look on the website, there are more than 12 consoles with pre-installed games on them that are not marked down as having (no game), so perhaps it is not a mistake? The console that I bought is there and marked as being out of stock, and you can see that it does not state (no game):-
3DS XL Fire Emblem Awakening Ed, Boxed (£148).

That's what I thought when I bought it, seeing it was a limited edition console, however, surely to make it more valuable, if wanting to sell it later, it would need to have the actual game on it?

Cannot obviously say during the time of your purchase, but the website most certainly has all Monster Hunter 3DS XL editions as having in brackets "no game" [here] therefore you would expect in the titles of Fire Emblem Awakening 3DS XL consoles for them to state the same.

You would not be able to reinstall pre-installed content because it would be registered to the Nintendo ID account of the previous owner who set up the console, and obviously will have been factory reset.

I would push for free return either to a local store or paid at their expense shipping back to the online warehouse. You have 14 days by law anyway......there really is nothing more you can do sadly if you are unhappy.

Not at all, The game can be repurchased on the eshop or bought physically, its the design that makes them sought after, it seems as though CEX have likely just not updated its price hence why the normal colours are more expensive
#18
Thank you for all your advice. Does anybody know how to check the content on the SD card - can you do it on a normal PC?
#19
I imagine the game was pre-installed on the system and not the SD Card. We bought a 2DS for daughter with pokemon pre-installed a few months ago and shipped without an SD card.

I had a quick google and seems like the game would be tied to the Nintendo ID and if the eshop account has been unlinked/deleted then the game would be gone forever.

Have you tried looking on the eshop on the device to see if its available for download?
#20
like a few other have said the game isn't on the sd card, once you sign in with nnid it it then liked to that id not the console.
I bought a 3ds xl with Mario installed but then transferred to a new 3ds and the game moved over with my account so it was no longer available on the original console.
it should state when you buy it game is not included so you should be able to get a refund if your not happy.

It looks like CEX have done a factory reinstall -- I've checked the e-shop for re-downloadable games and it is not there. On the box it says:
4 GB SDHC MEMORY CARD (PRE-INSTALLED Fire Emblem Awakening),
so maybe it was on the original card and the previous owner kept the card.
Anyway, I will keep the console as it is in excellent condition and I have the manual etc, with it.
