My old CRT just died (whites are pink now, no matter what I do with brightness and contrast), so I'm looking for a TV in roughly this size and max price range (42" Panasonic Plasma HD Ready) :-

Can I do better?

I don't really know anything about this stuff. Any specific suggestions please?

Should I worry about the difference between HD Ready and Full HD? Most viewing will be Freeview and maybe downloads, not Blu-Ray (though I suppose I should think about future-proofing for Freeview HD).

Is there a point (screen size) where scaling up SD looks bad?

Anything I should definitely look out for, or avoid?

Bonus points if I can pick it up from a retailer (Currys, Comet, Tesco, etc).

Thanks for any help.

have you looked at Richer Sounds website and John Lewis website?

Richer sounds have always provided me with excellent customer service and have always answered all my tech questions honestly, they have a great selection of all types of audio video stuff at very competitive prices.
they have a good warranty option which i think costs about 10% of the price of the tv (your tv costs £500 then your warranty would only cost you £50 - great deal i reckon)

John lewis have some great tvs at good prices and their prices normally includes an extended warranty which i am told is excellent should anything go wrong.

Thanks J4GG4. I did check the scart, but it's the same for the internal TV tuner too. I guess it's the tube :(.

Thanks JasonMason, I'll check out those two.

It looks like posting on Friday night was a bad time to seek help here! Hopefully more people might pitch in when back at work on Monday.
