Afternoon

I'm moving house soon and looking at a good 40"-42" telly for the living room. Found some lovely Samsung's but at my budget none of them were 1080p.

I've come across this one, http://www.247electrical.co.uk/epages/twentyfourseven.storefront/EN/Product/PANTH42PX70B?STS=247&source=PRICERUNNERhttp://www.247electrical.co.uk/epages/twentyfourseven.storefront/EN/Product/PANTH42PX70B?STS=247&source=PRICERUNNER a Panasonic for £755, which is around the top end figure I'd preferably like to pay.

Does it look good to anyone, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Cheers

It says in the details 1024 x 768 pixel resolution so no i would leave it.I got a 42" Toshiba for £757 with 1920 x 1080 HD

den is right the Panasonic is not Full HD (1920 x 1080).

I wasn't too impressed when Panasonic brought out their PX70 as they had removed some of the features that the previous PX60 model had (less scart, no headphone socket)

You are right about the Samsung's though, you can pick up a 42Q97 for less than £800 and with a 5 year warranty if you go the John Lewis route.

The resolution on this is 1024 x 768 so still not Full HD but you have to think of what you will be using it for mostly then make the decision if you really need Full HD and also have the budget for a Full HD set.

Listen...the best tv is the sony 40d3000 for around £750. Its lcd with bravia engine, 100hz picture, but not full HD (u only really need full hd for ps3/xbox360 games and blue ray/hd movies. Also sky HD is not full hd, its 1080i which this tv has). Also this month sony is giving free 5yr warranty on this tv. Check pricerunner for accurate pricing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Think I'll probably go for a Samsung and I've found this 40" one for £669 http://www.1staudiovisual.co.uk/catalog/samsung-le40r87bdx-inch-p-1974.html

Too big an LCD for me, I prefer Plasma at over 37" especially for sports.

Had Toshiba & Sharp 42" HD LCD's but I just didn't like watching sports on it, almost like you could see that on fast moving stuff the display could not refresh quick enough.

Anyway good luck.

HD Ready 1080 has a minimum specification of 1080 minimum vertical pixels, someone is breaking the law by claiming that tbh :)

Just a bit outside my price range but thanks anyway.

Don't think the missus would like me paying so much for a telly, I virtually had to beg to get 'permission' to spend so much in the first place.

That really could be just a matter of opinion.

Looked at the "large" Sony's but since they only do LCD I still can't go there.

The Samsung PS50P96FD Full HD set really is quite a bargain at around £1,550.00

On Monday I bought the TV the OP asked about (panasonic th42px70)

ITS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

watched batman begins and casino royale - normal dvd played on old xbox

Picture was stunning from 7' away!

I paid £750 from apollo 2000 with free panasonic 5 year warranty

(their price was £999 put they priced matched richer sounds)

ONLY ONE DRAW BACK, THE LESSER CHANNELS ON SKY HAVEN'T GOT AS GOOD A PICTURE - BUT ALL THE MAIN CHANNELS LOOK BRILLIANT.

To top it off sky phoned my last nigh - i'm only on 4 mix - they offered me all sports channels and all movie channels £12 a month for 3 months! BARGAIN!

Can really test out the TV now!

Your right this is a great tv for the price. Ther sony's, panasonic's and pioneers are streets ahead of the competition. Just ask any expert or which magazine, what tv magazine etc. Samsung.....never in a million years!!

Why anyone would by this when u can get 1080p for a similar prices boggles the mind. Its 1024x768 - what is this 2005 ?

And it seems pretty cheeky p247electrical putting 1080p all over the page when it clearly isn't
