Is 5 -6 hours battery life from a moto g right?

My GF got a MOTO G about 3 months ago and she constantly moans about the battery life. So I charged it fully this morning at 7AM and just left it to its own thing and just checked 5 hours later and the battery is on 18%.

Bluetooth off
GPS on
screen off
wifi on
data off
battery saver on

As I type this, I just tried to check what apps are consuming the battery and it wont even turn on now. Time for a return as faulty perhaps?

At least once a month since new I have to do a hard reboot (power switch and vol down pressed for 120 seconds).

Try Battery Doctor App and make sure the phone is switched on when you charge it (it over charges at end of charge cycle)

bbc weather - 11% (set to lowest update frequency)
google search - 10%
screen - 5%

I would turn off GPS and test again.
There may be an app installed that is chewing the battery through excess GPS usage?
#3
Could be BBC Weather that is munching on your GPS/location service...
#4
thanks - will uninstall bbc weather as it isnt even used

then re-test

I get six hours screen time out of the Moto g.

If I haven't used it much, with wifi on, I typically get between 12-15 hours a day.

Android system is 4% for me, with screen time being the highest, followed by apps (Endomondo for two hours this morning) I've used today.

Wifi is a big battery drain but it's not as bad as your stats.

I'd do a deep factory reset if I was you, I believe the more thorough way is through the safe menu with instructions on the Moto g support website.

GPS off for a start as others have mentioned. Is the WIFI on and in use or just constantly on regardless? Also, is the data off because the WIFI is on but switches itself back on when WIFI is off?

Screen brightness, vibrate all at max or on, etc....?

don't even bother checking all the things people are suggesting - No, 5-6 hours battery life is not right. Get it in for replacement ASAP. I'm a fairly normal user i'd say and it lasts me over 24 hours - Charge at night and go again next morning - Can possibly get 2 days at a push. Wifi permanently on etc.

I had this issue on one of mine at the very beginning. It was frustrating as we bought 2 and set them up almost identically.
The problem resolved itself somehow and now they can easily last 3 days with light use (far better than my nexus 5 which is also rarely used but won't get through 2 days).

Mine lasts over 36 hours. Def turn GPS off, that will drain it like crazy, and see how that improves battery life.

dunno why some muppet negged you as i agree that 5-6 hours battery life is laughable with most battery hogs off and the phone seeing zero actual use

gps off, bbc weather uninstalled ready for a retest tomorrow

cheers

anything constructive to add for a change?

The System percentage seems very high considering its not been used much (low screen use). So based on that I'm guessing its an app that's been installed that is running all the time.

What Version do you have and what apps do you have thanks

I dunno what you guys are doing but I got 3 days quite a few times from my Moto G! Averaged easily 1+ day. Best battery ever!

Make sure you go to Google Services in System menu and turn the things you don't need off. That eats up a lot.

Sometimes this is caused by an unlikely app and you don't understand why. I had a problem with the EBay app that just drained my battery running real hot. Uninstalled it and then back to normal.

I've got BBC weather app, I doubt that's the prob, my battery is great

Blimey just googled moto g battery issues and there are loads aren't there. My OH has one (from Cex) and fortunately he has had no problems at all ... yet.

I quite openly admit I'm a heavy user krazyasif786, the moto g battery life for my usage is fantastic. I don't so much use high drain apps but screen usage, and six hours screen on time is fantastic in comparison to other phones and just to clarify that doesn't mean I only get six hours out of it, it means over the course of 12-15 hours that the battery lasts for me I've had the screen on for six hours, and it would last a lot longer if I didn't constantly have wifi on as like krazyasif786 I know people who go days without charging the moto g.

As to your question markhuges

I've a weather app - accuweather with the widget, im+, endomondo, few games stuck on there. Wifi on near constantly. GPS on when an app calls for it, battery saver off.

Android OS/system usage should be minimal even when no other apps. BetterBatteryStats use to work with a non-rooted phone but when android updated to Kit Kat they took away some of the rights that made the app work and I'm not sure if it does anymore, it use to be fantastic for knowing which apps were waking the phone and not letting it enter deep sleep.

Running Kit Kat 4.4.4 by the way.

if hard reset doesn't work, contact motorola and ask for a replacement.

this isn't normal

Turn off background data as apps can sync, send & receive data at any time. Same applies to wireless networks for see location in apps (such as maps) using wireless networks.

What price for free wi-fi?

UPDATE - Installed that Battery Doctor App and it seemed Facebook & Skype were the culprits (downloaded, installed but never used!).

Phone has been on an hour since uninstalling facebook & skype and charge is still at 100%

Looking good so far then so thanks all for the help everyone, especially Musician :)

Thought I'd download Battery Doctor app to try it out and my phone started to get really hot and drained the battery. Uninstalled it and now back to normal. The irony!

Mine's a rooted S2 running 4.4.2 don't know if that makes a difference.
