Looking to use it quite a lot, so something that can handle that would be good. The main things that I want are speed/portability/battery life.

Would it also be worth upgrading to the 240gb ssd?

Hmm, what's guarantee are they giving for battery life? 30 minutes? You wouldn't buy this sort of machine for it's battery life nor any ex corporate refurbishment.

this will be more than adequate for web browsing and any MS office applications. Most gaming will be out of the question. 14" screen may be small for working on for long periods but that the payoff for portability.
Battery life is always going to be limited on a second hand laptop, I wouldn't expect more than an hour but you should be able to purchase a new one.

Looks decent enough to me for what you want it for. if it's ex corporate the build quality will be so much better than the £250 laptop currys/argos/very etc sell.

Corporate machines don't really need good battery lives, always near a plug socket!

You can indeed get replacement batteries. but there really are some rubbish fake replacements out there so be careful!
