Not much cheaper tbh but virgin do a fibre broadband only package.

Do you mean broadband without a landline (not only via BT)? If so, you will have to check if you can get Virgin, Hyperoptic or Relish (4G). All three do not need a telephone line to run. All the best.

About £10/month is achievable for landline and unlimited broadband, plus possibility of cashback from the usual players

£176 for 3 months for broadband and line rental? That's crazy. I'm on Plusnet (which uses BT cabling, and is a separate company set up by BT originally but totally independent from them) and I have fibre (unlimited) landline telephone (including caller ID, and any time calls) and Youview tv for less than £45 a month.
Their customer service is pretty good if you have a problem too.

Have you tried calling BT to advise you are leaving to see what deals they offer you, we are with BT , anytime calls plus unlimited fibre , caller ID and paying approx £30 a month, paid the line rental in advance which worked out at £15.29 a month on top.

Ring up the post office broadband or go to their website. They can arrange to take over your landline and keep your number and give you unlimited broadband, is all the same cable, for about half the price BT charge.

I know it doesn't cut out your line rental, but could be worth a try .

Don't Vodafon do a service where you dont pay for line rental? Cant get the page to load atm but possibly interesting. Iirc it was about £22pm when I looked at it previously.

majority of UK homes are fed using the Openreach BT network.

majority of UK homes are fed using the Openreach BT network.

BT Openreach are the company that look after the 'last mile', the bit of the telecoms network that connects houses and businesses to ISPs networks so you don't have to have a new wire run down the street every time you switch ISP.

They currently charge every ISP (including BT Retail) that use the phone line £86.72 excluding VAT for a year's line rental.

How the ISP chooses to present that to the customer is up to them. Some of them like Vodafone hide it entirely, others add additional costs onto it so they can claim the broadband part of their package is cheaper than anyone else's.

The ideas of 'line rental' or a 'BT line' have become pretty irrelevant these days. I'd just look at the bottom line and ignore how it's presented.

No need to ring any of them :p you won't beat the Sky offer, and you just do it online. No need to cancel your existing service either as that's done automatically when switching
