Accommodation in New York? Afforable? Clean? Comfortable?

So, the wife and I are visiting New York for the first time this November and we're in the process of looking for a hotel.

All we want is somewhere that is clean and comfortable. We'll spend mots of the day out exploring New York, so we don't need anything special from the hotel other than somewhere to sleep.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced hotels? Or have any advice?

We stayed at the Hampton Inn near Madison Square Garden which was an ideal location for everything. Cheap, clean, staff are very friendly and quite a new breakfast too

Try a quote with flights through Expedia. If not, try booking.com for the hotel only.

Stayed at the W hotel in Hoboken in November. It's just across the Hudson from Manhatten Island but is easy to take the subway/PATH. Booked on Expedia including BA flights, which was the cheapest way to do it at the time. Worth exploring that option rather than booking flights and hotel seperately. So impressed with the hotel I left a review on expedia...

Great hotel away from the hustle and bustle of Manhatten Island.

The W Hoboken is a new hotel and although it doesn’t look much from the outside, it has a smart and funky interior. It is located in Hoboken which is across the Hudson from Manhatten Island. Hoboken is a quiet retreat in comparison to the hustle and bustle of Manhatten Island. It is a five minute walk from the PATH and Ferry terminals. PATH trains run to Manhatten on a regular basis with the trip not lasting more than 15 minutes (depending where you get off) Room was a spectacular queen on the 14th floor which gave great views across the Hudson to Manhatten, ours overlooked the empire states building. Beds comfy, bathroom good sized, shower powerful, cable TV inclduing HD channels (sport looks good in HD!), air con was noisy but we didn’t need it on during our stay. It seems the nightclub is the "in place" for Hoboken on a Saturday night. We only went in the once but beat the queue since the door staff had a list of hotel guests at the door. It was free to enter but drinks were pricey at around $20 for a glass of wine and a vodka and coke. The bar in the lobby also seemed popular over the weekend with the same prices as above. There are plenty of eateries and bars in Hoboken. Each with their own characteristics. Would recommend this place to young couples. You won’t be dissapointed.

We used the subway trains throughout our trip.... $5 each for the airtrain from JFK to Jamaica station. $27 each for a week unlimted pass on the subway system. Seperate metrocard for PATH costing £1.75 a trip. *You only need to get one PATH card as you can hand it back over the barrier to the next person as it charges $1.75 per trip. These PATH cards can be topped up at the booths in the station.

I stayed at hotel 41 on 41st. Subway across the road and just at the bottom of times square.

try signing up to Travel Zoo's weekly news letter. They regularly have deals on hotels in Manhattan, and most of them allow you to cancel up until a few days before you're due to arrive so you can chop and change at your leisure.

They had this deal this week if its any good:
Affinia Manhattan for £121. Its a 1 bedroomed suite.

I stayed at Hotel Edison on West 47th & Broadway, its right on Times Square. Great hotel, right where you need it (in the heart of NY), cheap, but clean, nice staff.
We booked our through Thomsons (Hayes & Jarvis), don't go through the hotel.

i have stayed in New York a few times and i found that the hotel i preferred was the travel inn new york city, excellent location it is just down the road from times square, and the bus station, has a fantastic diner just across the road, is clean and warm rooms and i have found it to be very cheap especially when 4 of us ladies have been sharing a room, i would definately recommend it and i would stay here again
