one in which there is activity.

( example : you change supplier of something but do not cancel the dd at the bank so the dd remains in place but is not "active" )

How will they know if there has been activity or not ?

I had a credit card that I transfered a balance so it was zero.. Never used it for about 9 months so no DD taken from my account, but when I did the DD still worked as it remains active although not used. If I canceled it then the card company could not be able to take money from my account.. Inactive DD.. I must look to see if Scottish Power have canceled DD as I moved supplier last year.

The bank will define what they call inactive. But I used to have my TV licence going out once a year so inactive for the other 364days of a year and when I changed bank a few years ago it was one of the few DD's set up on the account.

I suspect the bank can't actually tell if they are active/dormant at the time of transfer and only find that out after the transfer takes place. They probably use the wording to make people worry they won't get the transfer deal by using dud accounts that are never used.
