have you tried formating the hard drive and reinstalling your software first?

It's not a simple job to replace a laptop motherboard, and they're not easy to find. Your best hope is to find one on eBay with a broken screen or whatever and make 1 good one from the two.

I doubt you'd easily be able to find a new motherboard at an economically viable price.

Presumably it's out of warranty and not covered on house insurance?

Thanks, might have a look on ebay, i can fit the motherboard, i have stripped it down but can't work out what the model of the board is. It's deff the board (poss cpu but don;t think so)

Unfortunately being a laptop the motherboard is propriety so you can't just buy a new one, if it was HP or similar they may have sold you one but I doubt Advent will be able to.

Your best bet is probably to check ebay for another broken laptop of the same model.

mumbojumbo
Looking up the model number shows it is a rebadged ECS/Uniwill F71IL1, as are Advent model nos. 6551, 6552, 6553, 6650, 6651. Could try and find an old motherboard from one of those.

Thanks MumboJumbo i look in to that one

Thanks

thats usually the only thing you can do if it doesn't boot. Stick in the xp cd, boot off that and reformat hard drive then reinstall. obviouslly first thing you try. if the motherboard really has gone then obviously probably wont work

I'm guessing the OP isn't daft, and that the laptop is dead and needs a new motherboard!
