I bought a dvd player (Extra Value DV-254 HDMI DVD - USB & Card Reader - Upscaler) from Ebuyer a few months back and now i've just bought 6 HD movies from HMV, but when i got home i tried them all in the player and none will work.

I know nothing about hd players but i did thinks the dvd player i bought from ebuyer would play hd dvds, are my missing something? as the player i've got said HDMI DVD so i thought it would play them.

Anyway can someone please tell me what dvd player i need to get to start watching my hd dvds on.

Thanks for any advice

Is Hu5tler involved in any way?

this isn't a HD-DVD player, just an upscaler for standard dvds. If you could provide this link to the product though we could confirm this

This is the link http://www.ebuyer.com/product/104108 but it now says (Sorry, this product is now discontinued and is no longer available for sale on the Ebuyer.com website.) so i i have now told ebuyer i'm unhappy with this and they are letting me send the dvd player back, is there any hd dvd players on ebuyer that looks ok?:?

Anymore help on a buying a hd dvd player would be great.

Thats just a standard DVD player, im not clued up on HD-dvd player pricing or anything so will let someone else help you with that, but dont spend too much because you wont be able to get new HD films for the player since the format has been discontinued

Looks like your one wasn't a hd-dvd player. as fubarphill said, just upscales (improves the picture) of standard dvd's.
Regardding advise on hd-dvd players. You realise that this is a dead format? Blu-Ray is the way to go, though discs are more expensive. Though the reason hd-dvd's are so cheap is because retailers are clearing out their stock. There won't be any new ones.

Now you've got me thinking lol, i'm thinking now that it may be best to go for a Blu-Ray player in the long run or would it be cheaper to buy a PS3 Blu-Ray already there? plus i just wanted to ask would a Blu-Ray player play my HD dvds? thanks again

The Ps3 wont play HD dvds.. jsut Bluray. I believe there are some combos on the market that play both but i guess it depends on how mcuh you want to spend and wether you have the chance to return the HD-dvds youve already purchased. I personally would recommend the Ps3 if your interested in the Bluray and you like gaming.

Question 1 do you have an xbox 360 and want to keep the hd-dvd's you have bought?
If Yes, check on here for threads as there have been some cheap Xbox 360 HD DVD players on here..
If no to either Q1 then get a PS3 the firmware is upgradeable and you get a bluray player and gaming machine thrown in...I am just waiting for a price reduction before commiting to a PS3
