What are you doing that requires a dedicated graphics card?

Actually nothing really but not being computer savvy and always had one so don't know if without one would be a letdown

If you don't play games or do anything intensive that would specifically require a graphics card then it's just an extra expense which would be better spent on other components. I'd only be buying with a dedicated graphics card if you do things like

- gaming
- 3D cad work
- software development
- lots of photo/video editing

If you don't do that sort of thing then you're going to not need a dedicated graphics card. Web browsing, some day to day office work and basic occasional photo/video editing would be just as well served by a machine with the integrated graphics. In the last 10 years the integrated options have moved on in leaps and bounds so for average users negate the need to get a dedicated graphics card.

Regarding the Acer, personally, I wouldn't ever buy an Acer machine again given my poor experience with their machines on a couple of occasions and their dreadful customer service when things failed.

A very quick look around finds this Lenovo

http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-15-inch/?sb=:000001D4:000586B6:

£799 model gets you

- Faster quad core i7
- better 4gb graphics (I'm not sure if it's GDDR5 Ram as I think from what I can find online the Tesco model has slower GDDR3)
- Dual hard drives, fast SSD and a mechanical Hdd for long term storage
- IPS screen (much better than the TN panel in the Acer)
- double the RAM

The out of stock £699 model (which I think shows how much better value this is offers)

- The SSD you want (and second hard disk)
- More RAM
- better IPS screen
- Otherwise identical specs

hi Astec123, I thought I will keep you updated due to your suggestion I went to Curries on Friday as they had an opening day offers. I went for the Acer that you suggested and this is how it went.
Went to the store and looked around until I got seen to and round about way came to mention the Acer in question.
They went to check the stock as it was a clearance line and only one was showing in stock, Came back and said the box was damaged.
I told him it was a present and I need a box so off he went to his manager and came back with £ 50.00 knocked off so from 699.00 to 649.00, and they just put it in a plain transit box.
They also have a 10% off on 599.00 and over laptops so 585.00. There is a trade in as well and my 4 year laptop was valued at 100.00 and I traded it so 485.00 total cost so I am happy.
PS I have to wait for the 10% as I need to put a claim after 21 days.
So I have to thank you as you were the only one to respond and I feel I ended up with a good deal.

Buy this laptop as it's great value, you can easily add extra 500gb+ hard drive to it.
