Morning All,

I'm looking to get some business cards done – and last time round, I used Moo.com and they were perfection.

However, looking at their prices (even with the Recommend a Friend 20% knocked off) their prices are now super steep!

So looking from budget (VistaPrint) to Moo.com (Super premium) theres a massive scope of cash there.

Can anyone recommend a good company?

My biggest drawback with VistaPrint is that we cant get a background. If we did, we would have a white border too (if we uploaded an image with a background).

Moo.com do allow this – the cards are nicer too – but their drawback is the price.

So does anyone know any other company that can do a premium looking card at a price that’s not a kick in the balls everytime you hand one out?

Many thanks.

Oops not sure how they missed that. Could be just a simple case of miscommunication, hope not a ruthless sales push to get you ordering 4000!

Hmm, theyve come back and its not great. Its just basically the website price at the lowest quantity times the same website price.

So even though we (may) want them in runs of 500 per person, for 6 people its just 6x the cost of 500.

Its not like you get priced on the 3,000 and its just the website rate, so no discount even if we order 6 lots.

Which is a shame. Usually a lot of sites have the 'website' prices then move a little on quotation.

But sending me through a quote of simply the website x6 is an insult to me and my calculator :D As I could have done that myself. Doesnt make me want it anymore now they've put it into a nice PDF haha

So £70 for the most basic 1,000 is "Too Moo" for me - so will look for the next cheapest.

Ive spoke to the other fellas and yes, it would be nice to have some 'elite' cards for special occasions, but for the sake of business needs, we're just going to aim for some smart/clean looking ones.

So SoloPress are out of that remit.
Sorry to hear that dude. Similar to you, I'd do a batch of premium cards to selectively hand out, and a cheaper option for all other uses. I checked out moo.com and their luxe cards, they look the business! Might try them out next time I need a print run.

Another company I've used in the past that just came to my memory is Creative Sense.
1000 x 400gsm luxury matt laminate double sided = £50.87 delivered 3-5 working days.
Plus these guys have the option to split quantites for multiname cards. I think thats what you were looking for. They'd split the quantity of 1000 into 4, 250 each name, for only £6 more. So total would be £56.87. I've used the 1000 as an example.

Good luck!

1000x Vista Print (£17.99) printed both sides (+£5.49) with the “Premium Matte” upgrade (+£8.99) is going to run me £32.47

400x Moo Cards with Matte finish is going to cost £81.58 – 20% = £65.26

So nearly double for 60% less cards!? That’s ridiculous in my book.

I've used the following,
http://www.unitedprint.co.uk/
1000 x 400gsm coated art paper matt full colour doublesided = £36.35 5 day delivery

http://www.overnightprints.co.uk/
1000 x 350gsm premium card = £34.02 (not including delivery)

http://www.solopress.com/business-cards-printing/
1000 x matt laminated 400gsm stock full colour doublesided = £78 ( I think this is incl. delivery)
I'd recommend Solopress, never had a problem with them. Based in Southend, their turnaround is impressive, and you'll love the cards.

Try these guys:

http://www.surprint.com

Used them so many times and cannot fault them one bit, great service and the product is the best you can get.

Solopress coming in at £65 ex VAT for Matte
http://www.solopress.com/business-cards-printing/laminated-business-cards.html

Or £115 ex VAT for UV (which I'm not sure what that is/means)
http://www.solopress.com/business-cards-printing/spotuv-business-cards.html

But I'm impressed with the quality of their site and some of the genuine reviews I've read.

Will see how they stack up against Moo when I go through the entire process.

UV spot is a gloss effect on specified parts of a design, you probably have seen it before.

So far theyve missed the ball.

Spoke with them and specified everything I needed, design, quantity, style etc.

Then got a generic quote for 4,000 cards priced at £445.

So not sure how that translates to what I asked for.

Have replied straight back with a further outlining of what I need... But no reply as of yet.

States £60 for 1000 cards, but doesnt give any detail anywhere to what style they are.

Hate having to go through the process just to find out the options.

May just test all the above ones out later tonight once I have the finished design ready to upload.

It is beautiful, but its going to cost an extra £50+VAT per 1000 to do it.

I can picture our design working nicely (black logo, grey background too) so we might get 500 of these, for "high brow" events, then 1,000 of the matt finish, just for cabbies etc.

Or I can just order the 100 Card £4.99 job 10 times for £49.99 and save myself a tenner!?

Scratch that, just seen the small print - they actually charge you £10 to use your own design?

"We also receive PDF, EPS and many other formats direct by email. Simply add £10 for this separate service."

Where most companies would love this, because you're just printing off a file and not having to design anything!?

Strange.

i was looking for the specs of the quality etc too, ended up in the FAQ for the answer.
"Our cards are 86mm x 55mm, same as a credit card. We use premium quality 340gsm stock which has been responsibly sourced (www.fsc-uk.org). All work is done in-house at our UK printing facility."

You'd think that, but sometimes this is classed as a proofing charge, I've seen this in a few places. It's a service where your files are checked they're ok for printing, stuff like bleed colours, spot colours, margins etc. Sometimes it's an unneccesary cost tbh.
