I went to bed last night at 10pm to awake this morning at 5.20am to an order confirmation email sent at 11.30pm for a ps4. First of all I thought it was a scam as I did no such thing. No one else has access to my account and my laptop was closed. I double checked my account only to be horrified that there is an order for a ps4. I instantly tried to cancel the order but surprise surprise they declined it. Now that was at 5.20am Its now 9.52 and the order is still just being processed so why on earth couldnt they cancel it . Any way just wondering if any one else has had similar problems.

Who is it being sent to?
Its being sent to my address. Its sounds almost impossible and that I must have ordered it but I dont have one-click ordering so it couldnt have been done by accident.

Sounds like the scam where it will get delivered to you. You will then get a call from Amazon telling you there's been a mistake and that they will send a courier round to pick up the item.although it isn't the courier it's a scammer who has been watching to see the item has now been delivered

I would ring Amazon.

firstly I'd be changing my Amazon password and also the email password associated with the Amazon account, also check the white and black lists on your email setting just to be certain there's no redirects been setup.

Okay, well, change your password just in case. First thing to do.

When you get it, start a return via the order page in your account, and send it back to Amazon. Select item didn't perform as expected, and they should supply you with a free return label. If you select another reason (ie, something your fault), they may expect you to pay the return fees.

get on the phone and get them to cancel it manually! don't wait for it to be delivered. sort it out on phone asap.

Already changed password and contacted Amazon, just waiting for a reply. Thanks for the help but I was just curious if anyone else had ever had a similar incident.

I've had the misfortune of randoms things appearing on my account. Once I was signed up for Amazon Prime trial, never received any email and they went on to charge me when it turned into a full membership. Luckily they refunded when I saw it come off my card and questioned it. It is not even like I could have accidentally started it because during that time I never even visited their website let alone start a trial or order anything. There excuse was it was caused by a technical issue and would not investigate further.

So in order for that to work, the scammer would already have access to my account to place the order, I would have thought if that was the case they would order something a bit more expensive than a £200 playstation.

About 8 days ago I noticed I had an email confirmation for an order of something I knew I hadn't ordered. I went to my Amazon account and yep, it was there. They wouldn't let me cancel and a couple of days later, it arrived. It was just a Christmas ornament - not a computer - but still, I hadn't ordered it. I'll be sending it back today and hoping for a refund!

If they try charge you for a refund you can just go to live chat and they will arrange a free collection or return label, pick the latter if you're worried about a fake courier coming to steal it.

These are the kinda answers I'm looking for. Interesting to see whether its a technical problem or some one within Amazon playing up.

Let's just accept for now that there has been a mistake/error for whatever reason. Sorting that error/mistake out is a back-burner job - which might never get done.

Buying on-line like this means you have a 14 day "cooling off" period when you are allowed to change your mind. The 14 days starts from the day you receive it and then you have a further 14 days to return it.

The full process is described on this web page - follow it to the letter!

You should be able to check where and when it was ordered. I assume they track ip addresses when purchases are made so this should help you find out where the order originated from. Hopefully you haven't got some homeless old lady living in your crawlspace who wants a PS4 for Christmas ;)

Only slightly related but I my other half logged on to her amazon account to find someone else's debit card registered to her account. Nobody we know and she hadn't used amazon since last Christmas and only ever on the home laptop never at a public place or work etc. She checked her purchase history and nothing there that she had not purchased herself.
She contacted Amazon and they just checked her account and told her not to worry they had removed that card from her account now and didn't even apologise or explain how it could happen.
She has since changed her password obviously.

Contact Amazon via live chat and try to find out how this happened without your authorisation. You can refuse delivery when the courier turns up. Check your bank to see if funds have been taken out. Change your password.

this happened to me, I rang amazon and asked them to read me a list of purchases made on the card and they said none and I removed it but it's worrying that my card could be on someone elses account

Were you browsing PS4s on your phone? And do you have one click delivery setup? I have accidentally ordered something pretty much without realising due to one click being setup on my amazon account and the button being very large and being in the position of my scrolling finger on my phone.

No to both.As previously mentioned, I could maybe, just maybe put it down to a mistake like that but as I dont have 1 click set up its not that.
Also although I had a ps4 in my basket area, when you actually buy it, it will then disappear from the basket and when I checked my basket this morning , it was still there so something is definitely not right.

If you logged in on the site then it's not unusual for you to accidentally order something.

Not sure what you are saying but I have never ever accidently ordered anything and the only way that could be possible is with one click and the other point is that I was in bed when the order came through.

It is a scam in a way. They order something on your account, once it has been delivered they call up say it never arrived or something similar and get a refund. When they ask for the refund they ask for it in like a credit or gift then they transfer it to another safe account to then use.
#25
If it's still processing/preparing for dispatch, can't you just remove your payment details from your account - that way they wont be able to send it if they can't charge your card?

Later on, when it has been definitely cancelled, add your card details back.

how do they get a refund if there is proof that it's been delivered?

Log onto your account via a browser not through the email, it may be a phishing email to get your password etc

I had the same thought, there was nothing stopping me using this persons card except my morals, not everyone would be so inclined, it is also worrying that someone else has had the same thing happen to them.

so at 05.20 I requested a cancellation from an order that was placed at 23.30 the night before only to be rejected.
The response I got from CS was absolute Bull and that they couldnt cancel as it was being prepared.
Got a despatch email at 12.45am this morning . So it took over 17 hours to despatch the item and they couldnt cancel.
What an outrageous system.
I will try refuse the parcel but I live in France and its not that easy either way they are going to have to pay return postage.
