Outlook Express comes free with Windows XP, this has been replaced by Windows Mail that comes free with Vista.

There is a version of Outlook that comes with Microsoft Office, but I dont think it gains very much for a home user over Outlook Express / Windows Mail.

You can buy Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student for around £50 to £60. This includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote, and can legally be installed on 3 PCs.

OK without being great. You can get an Intel Core 2 Duo that is more powerful for the same money.

I helped someone earlier today who was asking about this laptop

Well, you won't be buying many new games for him with that laptop but as it's a business laptop it should come with a matt screen and decent keyboard (for a laptop) making it good for doing his homework on.

Assuming you're son's in school (as opposed to home schooling or similar which may not count) then you can get the student version of microsoft office which is a lot cheaper: http://www.software4students.co.uk/

The other thing to be aware of is that the description makes it sound like it's surfaced with horrible shiny black plastic that attracts fingerprints and scratches like no tomorrow.

Thank you for being so helpful.
The software for students sounds great!

A bit concerned about endlesswaves comment: Well, you won't be buying many new games for him with that laptop
I was under the impression that there wasn´t that much difference between the samsung and the hp

Both feature very weak graphics cards which won't be able to run most new games at all within just a year or so, hence my comment.
