Well, we took the plunge and cancelled Sky today. We tried to find the thread on here about cancelling, but failed miserably. We were offered a 40% reduction. We probably would have accepted a 50% reduction, but you have to draw the line somewhere, don't you? They also wanted a £10 admin fee, which annoyed me. From what we remember from the thread, some people got much better offers closer to the time of the end of their contract, whereas many got nothing. Seemed a bit hit and miss.

So, our (ie. me)'s next step is a 'Now TV box', which are on here all the time. Can you tell me please, does it have an HD option? We like the National Geographic/ natural history type of things, so HD is a bit of a must.

As always, your help would be appreciated.

This thread? http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/75-off-sky-tv-for-existing-customers-only-works-when-call-specific-number-3-weeks-1741671?p=20002727

I've always got 50% off and occasionally some credit.. Log in to your sky account online and see if you have a 50% off showing on the main screen yet.. Last time i did it, it was there almost instantly after cancelling

If you cancelled today then wait a couple of days and try them on the live chat. This is what I did a couple of months ago and got 60% off. I think to get the 75% off you need the contract to expire completely (so the 30 days notice).

This was all the case a few months ago, the discounts/offers might have changed.

Thanks 'winifer', that's the one. How embarrasing, took you seconds, we looked for, well, much longer! Thank you for taking the time to reply. We'll keep an eye on our account. Hopefully, someone can help with the info on these nowtv boxes.

Thanks very much 'AngryKelvin'. I seemed to remember this was the case from the thread mentioned above. Much appreciated.

The newest Now TV boxes will support HD pictures, but Sky only stream the content in 720p so you won't be able to get full HD for your Nat Geo stuff

I phoned up Sky to give 30 days notice last week and was very surprised to be offered a 75% discount on an 18 month contract straight away. It was only on one of the lower packages and we had planned on getting a basic tv package from VM but at the price offered we couldn't turn it down.

On the other hand when I gave 30 days for my dad they offered nothing. Took a few weeks but they did come back with 60% discounts plus credit. The last offer my Dad had was 75%

Great result, wish we had the same call handler!

A few days after cancelling, maybe even a week before your cancellation date when your services will end, they will ring you and try and tempt you back. :D

Great outcome!

Whilst reading the comments on here, we had an en email off Sky demanding an 'immediate payment', as we had cancelled our subscription. We are due to make two more D/D 's, with a final date confirmed with Sky in our first call.
Straight on the phone.
Lots of apologies etc etc. Computer generated email etc etc. Computer says no etc etc. I'm none too pleased, but meanwhile my much better half is checking our account on the telly, as suggested on here, to see if they had generated a bill against us as we were worried by the email. 'Sorry you're leaving us, join back at 60% discount.'

So, I read this to the call handler along with the e-mail demanding payment and ask for an explanation. 3 hours ago they wanted a £10 administration fee? (I was polite, must stress. I was hoping I now had the ace in the hole.)

We were offered a 70% reduction as we were 'clearly trying to work with Sky and we would like to do the same.'

Bingo!

Thanks to everyone who replied. See you in 12 months!

I've been with Sky 15+ years. Most I've ever had is 50% off. Yes I've had free HD boxes and stuff on the way but never have I got £100 or even £50 Cashback. I've asked sky about this on at least three occasions and as far as they are concerned they don't do it and have never done it. So either many trolls on here talking BS or they are very lucky. Personally I'd check your account in a week via your sky box. You should see a 50% off deal to stay. I've taken that myself instead of trying to get these magic deals that everyone else says that get. 99% off, 2 free 4K TVs, a PS4 Pro and £1000 Cashback. X)

The reason why they won't offer you the £100 may be because they know you won't actually leave because you have been with them so long? Have you ever gone as far as giving notice and letting it expire to see what they offer?

I was also cynical 'Dawsy' as to how much people can get, hence my original question. The events I've tried to describe are accurate and true. (Not sure why you'd think I'd made it up.) I also pointed out to the Sky employee who'd asked for a £10 admin fee that apparently great deals were available. She wasn't having any of it. I was lucky that I got the demanding e-mail and acted upon it straight away. It does go to show that they can pick and choose the offers and whom gets them. We were lucky. The offer of 60% off was on the telly account within 2 hrs of cancellation.

Cynical is wrong of me to say. I'm just rubbish at haggling and get frustrated that some people seem to get better offers depending, seemingly, on whom you talk to, what time, which call centre etc. etc. I'm extremely grateful to the people on here whom have posted their experiences on this subject, as it has without doubt helped me to stick to my guns and get a result which has pleased me no end and must be ok for the supplier or they wouldn't have offered it.

Those deals that other people have mentioned I would say are genuine (speaking from experience). You need to give your cancellation notice and then a week later ring them and ask them what retention deals are on offer. Always knock back their first offer of 50% then 60%+ will be offered (maybe). Next ask for cashback, say a friend/relative was offered £100. It seems to me they got you on the first offer and you're a soft touch.

60% off entertainment package with £50 credit. Respect to the people who got 75% off with £100 credit (free Sky for the year).

Viewing Subscription Discounted- £24.80

I'm no where near as adept at cutting and pasting as Mr. Dragon, but this is hopefully prompting you to do what we did, Dawsy, and take the advice on here. What have you to lose?

You should have asked for £100 cashback as well (nothing to lose).

I quit sky back in November and I'm still getting 60% offers. The offers started as soon as my 30 days notice ended.

Maybe so, but as I said, I'm not the best at haggling. I'm genuinely chuffed with our result today as we get to watch some channels we'd otherwise miss. Forces channel, for one.
We get a box and handset we are really comfortable with ( extremely clever design, on so many levels) and access to lots we actually want to see. As I have to spend quite a lot of time in hospital, lots of the things can be recorded. I'm very happy to pay for any service I use, so Sky offering this contract was good for me and, presumably, good for them or they wouldn't have offered it.
It was great to get it sorted so quickly as I suspect many people like me need a reasonably quick resolution to up coming budget requirements and cannot play the waiting game.
I wouldn't have bothered, had it not been for the help on here. Just goes to show, as you suggest Mr Dragon, what have you got to lose by asking.

Happy days.

You get national geo wild on the now box - I also left sky and got 3 boxes - i have both entertainment and films - I couldn't afford that on sky - i also have access to a billion (slight exaggeration) box sets that sky charge more for. The thing is no pause and no record - you could look at the humax box for that.
#22
I just tried to get Sky Q installed and was quoted £297 to replace my 3 HD boxes
i was told no offers at all for existing customers only new ones
#23
I'm in the final weeks of my second year sky contract about to give my 30 days notice. I'm just how much are people are paying per month for their sky packages? I'm paying £75 for family with sports and 1 multi room.
#24
I had two boxes (one viewing only), the largest package, box sets and Sky movies (no sports) telephone and unlimited fibre...

All for £63p.m. (new customer 50% off everything deal, no upfront costs).

On renewal they would only offer 30% discount so I left and went to Virgin with an even better than 50% off deal. (Again, new customer deal).

Sky then phoned up soon after my cancellation offering 60% off.....

Worth bearing in mind. ....
#25
Wait for 70% . I got that and £150 credited to my account. Just got to be firm but polite.
