Useless at night as not all car lights are going to be coming from directly in front of you. Glasses are better even though they might feel like a fool wearing them at night time. Only real solution that helps is tinted (within the law) glass or ink injected glass with "sun strip" (unsure what you actually call that strip! from the outside looks pure black, from inside looking out it looks blue during the day) combined with chromatic (self tinting sometimes known as anti-glare) wing mirrors and rear view mirrors. Suffer myself and the best thing I ever done was bought a car with with all in it.

Give them a gift card for a eye test and voucher for glasses.
Odds are if they are getting migraines from driving it's time for glasses or a new prescription.
