Sorry if not on right board...

Finally going to get around to setting up the internet this afternoon on the new Dell I got (thanks MikeT).

Have been reading references to AVG etc, Im a techophobe when it comes to software and especially antivirus/firewalls.

I was going to install Norton but not sure now.

Any suggestions and where do I get the free AVG etc from? When I google there are lots of pages and I havn't a clue where to start.

Any help is much appreciated.
thanks a lot :)

to wireless connect to the livebox you first need to access the config pages 192.168.1.1 in your browser using the ethernet cable. change the security to none to disable it. then have your wireless try to connect. it should manage fine. then disconnect the ethenet and access the config pages using wireless and reset the security to wep only. then when you try to connect it should say there is a problem, you can then access a page from a link that pops up to input the wep key on the bottom of your livebox. after this it should all work ok.
i assume you have vista? and you are using the inbuilt wireless card and not the ****** usb one supplied with the live box?

spybot s&d and adaware, get them safely from www.filehippo.com

I have been using ad-aware se personal for years does a decent job, free to download just do a search in google.

AVG for virus protection

the only real advice I can give about the drivers is call the manufacturer or orange, whoever your technical contact is, and ask them if they have any vista drivers.

Windows live Onecare is top banana for me. You can download a 90 day trial for free

I agree with shanecr, ad-aware and spybot, run one program then the other.

What one doesn't get the other will

nod32 and tiny personal firewall pro

Agree with the NOD32 recommendation, it is one of the best for detection and removal while at the same time being the most lightweight of the anti-virus solutions in terms of CPU and memory usage.

There is also an comprehensive list of free anti-virus and anti-spyware software here: http://forum.hijackthis.de/showthread.php?t=8897
