Any advice on moving from Virgin to Sky?

I pay £81 a month for Virgin line rental, call plan, broadband and movie package. When I first took this out it only cost £37 a month (without the movies) and it's just slowly gone up and up! Anyone know if I could potentially save money? not sure how I'd go about it unless it's as simple as just ringing Sky and asking for a quote?

I love sky, all my stuff is with them . best In business. Everything works perfectly and no capped limits on Internet! like most.
Go straight to their website and plenty of offers.
Get a family member to recommend you and you can both share the spoils!

You can always get a price from the stand and then try via cash back as suggested to see which is best for you. We got a better deal in person the first time as it was a big package like you will need and he was willing to do an excellent deal. Good luck.

Fruityloops let us know how you get on, I'm in the same boat, I started off at £30 but now it's gone up to £74 over the years... I have added a couple of bits like the TiVo box and some movies but price is shocking now.

I pay 37 month with virgin, I get medium TV broadband n phone. I had to cancel as we are moving house, they rang me after I arranged disconnection and offered me xl TV and broadband for 4£ less than we pay now, if we have virgin at new house. So ring up and book disconnection and they will ring a few days later with a good offer.

Thanks all, will let you know how I get on.

sky is craps, I pay 28 a month for unlimited internet and phone line . but around 1am every night the internet go's off for about 5-10 mins. and at peak times my speed drops from 7.5 meg to around 4.5. if virgin was in my area I'd love to have it. it's on my main road but not down the avenues were I live.

Try the online chat.

I did this and just asked about availability in my area of Internet etc.... I told them I was moving in over next week or so and was just checking out. The person the other end offered me 50% off all tv and free broadband if I took line rental too if I signed up there and then. This was all discounted for 12 months on a 12 Month contract.

Just make it sound like your enquiring and not looking at signing up at that point. ... They seem to offer you a great deal to get you to sign up there and then rather than risk you not signing in the future.

Have you phoned virgin to say you're leaving... They'll probably offer you a competitive reduction.
#14
Phone 151 and ask for retentions. don't accept the first offer just keep saying you can't afford it and see how low they go. If you don't think they have gone low enough cancel and wait for the retentions phone call.
#15
Op, if you can in the meantime get a quote from sky, then it will give you a quote to compete with when you phone virgin retentions. And if you not bluffing about leaving, then you're in a even more stronger position to get a good deal

Also tell them a **** story about a deal price you'd get with sky. Usually they'll try to negotiate. And if not you can always leave but I don't rate sky. I just got rid of the premium TV channels leaving mostly free view as I perfer their internet..

Go for it, I was a virgin customer for 11 years, but after the inflation busting price hikes in February added to the foreign call centers and poor customer services, I decided to leave virgin. Sky offered to put an open reach line in my house, give me all the equipment and a £75 tesco voucher for me and my sister. I got all TV, 45mbps fibre broadband and phone unlimited on a 12 m contract, including line rental for £37 pm however they messed the swap of my broadband so reduced my bill to £27 pm for the full 12m. Took them a month to sort my broadband! Excellent deal, far better than any deal the robbing gits at virgin could offer, even with my so called £28 loyalty discount!

Just a word of warning. I switched to Sky when I moved to a non-Virgin street and was astonished at the four week wait for the broadband connection.

Sky's broadband is rubbish compared to virgin but sky TV looks alot better. I have been with virgin over a decade and they always give u a good deal when u complain.

I did try calling Virgin once to ask if they could do anything with the price but they said they couldn't unless I changed packages (I think they don't like me being on the call package I'm on as it's anytime/anywhere minutes) - I used to get my monies worth out of it but not now.

Op, call virgin and pick the option that you want to leave. That's retentions and they offer some great deals.

Chocci, I blame this place for thinking deal could be better.. Lol

I suppose it all depends on the deal you need, I have been with Virgin for years but prices are always creeping up and my package is currently £124.99 per month but I threatened to walk last year and I got £30 a month credit off for 12 months (running out soon). I looked at sky last week and couldn't believe the prices were even more expensive, for everything and 3 extra boxes was nearly £140 per month plus £95 ish set up fee.

I am going to be in the same boat though talking to the Virgin customer services once my credit runs out so will see what happens. I have only been given any decent offer when I have actually given my notice to quit and been recontacted by retentions, before then the offers have been crap.

Good luck and keep us updated with how you get on.

Would avoid sky, poor broadband, sky+ boxes often break and they charge you 60 quid just for an engineer visit. That aside they are owned by evil Murdoch.

Well not really after 12 months you can threaten to cancel they will soon someone to fix it for free.

If your in a Fibre area it might be worth looking into Fibre. Truly Unlimited and no throttling on Sky, unlike Virgin who even after getting rid of the download throttling still have an throttle on the upload.
