Anyone seen any good deals on Mens suits in the run up to xmas? It's been one of the problems of weight loss that my old one doesnt fit very well anymore

Only wanting to spend around £100 though

Or wait until January sales? Advice most welcome :)

All depends on what you are after in terms of colour, quality, brands...
* For top brands check out TKMaxx, on a good day you could pick up a YSL, DKNY or D&G for around £100. If possible check a few stores rather then just the one.

* If quality isn't a pressing issue, go to Primark. You can pick up a suit (or 3) for £35. Fit and colour choice is good but they are 100% polyester.

* Next clearance stores are fantastic. You can get a good quality suit for about £50, maybe £75 for a pure wool one.

* Debenhams have a Mega Day coming up and they usually reduce one or two lines of own brand suits (John Rocha, Jasper Conran, etc) to about £100. There are only 1 or 2 in most sizes so if your interested, go early in the morning of the first day.

* Check if you have any clearance or outlet villages near you. There are some M&S outlets (though I've no experience of them). Also there is a Men's formal wear outlet shop which sells Ted Baker suits for £75 in Batley... check what there is in your area.
TBH waiting till January can be a bit futile because you might not get the right size, it's busy etc... if you need one spend your money wisely and you could get it cheaper now than in January.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Top notch, thanks! Debenhams sounds promising and will check it out. Must admit the thought off Jan sales fills me with dread!

Where do you live? I took my boyfriend on a suit-hunting spree a few months ago, and we stumbled across a place called Slater Menswear after trying M&S and Debenhams etc. We walked in and within 30 seconds the sales guy had him trying on a suit that was an almost perfect fit (without taking any measurements!) and better quality/way cheaper than everything else we'd seen. They had a huge range in the store we went to, so I think they cater to all price ranges. I thought they were just a Scottish store, but I found a store locator and they seem to have quite a few!

If you have one near-by, I'd definately recommend checking them out. The store locator is linked on the front page. http://www.slatermenswear.co.uk/

TOPMAN
I payed £90 for a slim fitted style suit.
Has a small lapel on the front and slit pockets.
Looks more modern than the original boring suits.
I was made up with mine.

tbh although Topman is cheap (esp with student discount if that applies) the quality is pretty abysmal so I didn't mention it - for that price you can have a much nicer, quality suit.
i mean the fit can be perfect but if at £90, ur gonna get all of 2/3 wears out of it before the fabric starts pilling, is it really worth it? maybe for some people...

let me know how u get on tho timbo...!

Id recommend the outstanding value range of suits from M&S

They are only £79 (might even be a usable voucher in the voucher section) and the quality is superb, i have a few of them that i use for work to they get a lot of wear and handle it very well.

The range is getting more and more selection in it all the time both online and in store

Good old M&S alwas a good stop. U could try Burberrys - they are expensive at around £1000.00 per suit - they will throw in an extra pair of trousers FOC. - no such thing as a free lunch - never forget.

in my experience (i have worked at Burton's and Topman) avoid them at ALL costs
their suits are expensive for the quality you get and will not last you a very long time... avoid all suits which you can stick in the washing machine... these tend to be poor material.

i stick to buying suits from Moss... brilliant suits fair prices - i buy mine from The Galleria (its an outlet Mall in Hatfield) moss have an outlet store there... and im sure they have a few more scattered aroudn the country check that on their website. if you are an NHS employee you get either 15% or 20% off there too :D

I would also reccoment John Lewis you will be paying slightly more but for the quality that you are getting it is well worth it... i think i bought a suit from them when i was about 15-16 and i still have it and have worn it about 20-30 times since then (im almost 21 now so thats about 5 years) and its still mint (and still fits somehow)

I wear a different suit to work every day and they're all from M&S.

I buy £200 suits that tend to go down to ~£100 in the sales.... wait until after Christmas and go take a few (that's what I do).

Careful with their sizes though. Normally I go for their Autograph range, and some trousers are tighter fitting than others. Strangely enough getting longer legged trousers means a bit more room around the waist... moral of the story is (unfortunately) you must try them on. Alternatively buy many with a view to taking them back...

Must agree with rajpop above, John Lewis also have v nice looking suits, so might look there during the sales too..

all above comments agreed with - have a look at outlet stores now, if you don't succeed, continue looking in January...

good price but again: quality. they're polyester which although looks fine when new, after only a few wears, starts to look pretty abysmal.

As someone mentioned before, you can't go wrong with M & S. I've picked up some excellent value Italian suits for a fair price. Id advise you to perhaps consider spending slightly more if you want to get a quality suit for a good price.
#18
 Perhaps I've misinterpreted timbotambo's request. I thought he wanted a cheap suit to last a short while because he is still losing weight.
#19
lol... i got that he'd lost weight so his old suit didn't fit and he wanted a new one... anyhow i just thought that it'd be possible to get a good quality suit for the same price or less than some of the poorer ones...
maybe timbotambo can clarify

LOL, nah gotta stick to the 34" waist now! Thanks for all the tips, M&S seems good so will check out that and Moss in town soon. Think will avoid online as a daily suit has to have the right comfort and feel. Thanks for the heads up over topman, was tempted there!
#21
HEHEH, I've got to stick to the 34" also.
I thought I was going to be a 32 inch waist until I was 30...
It was upsetting chucking out all my 32" jeans.
#22
i'm never giving up my 32" waist - no way

I was looking for a new suit two weeks ago, found a fantastic Aquascutum suit in Slaters Menswear, looked great on (made me look almost normal) but would cost nearly 300 quid!
So I thought I'd look around for a few weeks (I need a new one for a wedding in Dec).
Then I thought I'd try the Matalan Clearance Store.

I Bought a wool blend suit (and it doesn't look a cheapie), four shirts for me(one with a tie!), a shirt for my youngest son, an Umbro top for my other son and a babygrow. All BNWT

All that lot, cost me just over thirty two quid! :-D
