If you like seafood there's a place called 'The Big Mussel' near the river. The earlier you go the cheaper it is (e.g. it was something like a pint of mussels at 5.45pm was £5.45, 6pm was £6 etc.). Excellent food, great atmosphere and good beer.
Here's the website link so you can explore further.
Hope that helps :-D
If you like chinese food there is a great all you can eat buffet in Stowell Street which is near the city centre. Prices change throughout the day with cheapest being £5.99. It is called LAU's.
thanks guys rep l;eft for you 2 thanks again
The Union Rooms (Wetherspoons near Central Station) will probably have the Scotland game on as it has loads of screens, or possibly try Players (in The Gate) which is nearby.

As for food, I'll second Lau's on Stowell St, as well as Trillians or Tilley's for excellent and cheap 'pub grub'.
well just back from sunny newcastle and cant recommend it enough, the people were really friendly and there was lots to do even managed it to the beach as well as its not that far away

i gotta say i was quite disapointed with lau's to be honest tho cant really argue with the prices i just thought the food wasnt as good as other buffets weve been too

i'll certainly be back hopefully get to take in a match next time

p.s was well impressed with the flange on show as well pty im married and had my two year old son with me ;-)
