Right, apologies in advance, I have no idea what I'm talking about!!

So my soon to be 10 year old son wants a tablet and a laptop for his birthday (he's not a spoilt brat I just don't think he really knows how much they cost)

Was looking at a windows tablet with keyboard.
To me this looks like a laptop/tablet mix

The one I'm looking at is 2gb ram, 64gb memory and 10.1 screen...
Would this work reasonably well or do I need to look out for other things also?

Thanks for any input!

I got mine a linx 10 tablet with keyboard (he's 11 now but got it for his 9th birthday) and he's still using it to this day. Cost him £140 then but may be cheaper now. They also do an 8" and 7" version too and I got two 7" ones for my daughters (twins).

Perfect for what you need it for. There will be other brands but I'm just letting you know of something three kids use nearly every day and still no problems over a year later!

I would try and go with a touchscreen laptop as oppose to a tablet with keyboard.

Why not a chrome book with a touch screen. You can run Andriod apps for games and educational stuff. Create a general named family Google account. You can monitor the chrome book through the Google activity centre if needed

yes a chromebook is the way to go. Memory easily upgraded by inserting SD card

Whats your budget

I got one of those from my job. It's fine if you want it for basic communication and productivity utilities. I also use it for Skype, I have Kodi, Deezer, Facebook and Messenger apps on and it can handle a couple of them at the time easily. I hope that helps.

Thanks all, was not wanting to go over £150 if I can help it. If I'm honest I think it will be mostly used for YouTube videos and little games and the odd bit of PowerPoint for school

I have a good computer he is able to use so this would just be for his personal use, up until now he's had an amazon fire tablet

Sounds like a good solution, but it depends what he wants a tablet for. If he wants it to play the games his friends play on Android devices, a Windows tablet will not be much use!

It is also possible to get dual-booting Windows/Android tablets for around £150, so one of those with a keyboard might be a better option for the best of all worlds (productivity, games and portability).

Oh I hadn't thought about that. I think he will be getting an iPhone 5 also so I guess he will have to use that for games and that as a computer ha oh it's a hard life being 10 lol
