any tips for train travel Brighton to Leicester?

Hello
Doing a return trip from Brighton to Leicester for 3 adults and 1 child , out on 16/12 and back on 17/12 and am a bit shocked about how expensive the trip is even after pricing with a network card or a family railcard.
Anyone got any ideas of how to make this trip economical?
Otherwise I'm going to have to drive and I REALLY hate driving.
Cheers

well by coach-national express it takes 6 hours to go from brighton to leicester.

See link for prices,

there was also a 10% discount voucher posted in the last few days in the hot deals section for national express

Thanks guys!
Was hoping that someone might know of a way to reduce the train fare.
The idea of sitting on a coach for 6 hours, including an hour wait at Victoria has not gone down too well.

phone the outbound train company in case they go a "groupsave" discount. Otherwise, travel off-peak, use railcards and search on www.trainline.com for cheapest fare.

you could try the following
brighton to bedford (First Capital Connect)
bedford to leicester (Midland Mainline)
do not know prices
