Is there any way to speed up the passport application?

As above. A friend has asked me to go on holiday with them next month (their other friend can't go anymore) but I don't have a passport... Is there any way to speed up the application for a new adult passport so it would arrive before the estimated (but probably optimistic) 6 weeks?

Don't think so if it's your 1st passport , you have to have an interview aswell these days

Go on line to the http://www.gov.uk/passport site and find out if you can go to the nearest passport office and do it straight away but it will cost your more money.

I renewed my adult password and got it back in 7 days on just standard service. Fast track and premium services are not available for first passport. In any case call the passport advice line. Click here

Gave them a ring and they said no can do. Can't even go in and get it done. Dunno if they were talking rubbish but seems like they won't speed it up :(

Well you could be lucky and get it back within the 6 weeks but you would need everything perfect in the application, perfect photos, correctly signed by someone on the list they have.

I guess first time passport holders require strict procedures, maybe they do intensive checks now.

If you do apply for a passport, update this when you send it and get it back to give others an idea on time frame. Good luck.
