Any Xbox 360 people that can help me out ?

Ok , so I have an old xbox 360 with my account on and 2 childrens . When i buy a game (download) the game is available for every one on the console to play under their accounts .
I have now a second xbox . I put my profile on there and the childrens . The store recognises I have previously bought the games and allows me to download them again free and play them.
The problem seems to be when my children log into their accounts on this console , it does not recognise the games and asks them to buy the game .

Is this the way it is . or is there a way around to let every 1 use the games on the 2nd console as well ?

Also is this the way it would work on an xbox 1 as well ?

Thanks in advance

That's the way it is
You can only play games that you download
With your profile signed in

It might work if they have gold membership to
I'm Sure someone on here will know more

Ok but I dont think I'm signed in when my children use the original console and it allows them to play the games then ?

Asked my son who has an Xbox and he says that he thinks the only way it might work is that you would have to swap the hard drives of the xboxes as the game will be downloaded to the master account and the hard drive. Or you could redownload the game from your profile onto the new Xbox rather than it just being saved onto your profile. Worth a try anyway.

you have 2 licenses on the content;
One is linked to the console so anyone can play it solely on that console
One is linked to the account so that, that account solely can play the content on any console

I'd advise you download the account that you buy the content with to the other xbox make the purchase then redownload it back to the original console so you play it on both

Right thanks , thats what I have done and I am able to play the content , however my children cannot unless they log into my account ( on the 2nd console)

You need to give the children your first Xbox. They only need to sign in with their gamertags to use the games you've bought.

The other Xbox is only for you with your gamertag (re-download past purchases to this console) but you have to be signed in with the purchasing gamertag/xbox live account.

Continue to buy new purchases on the childrens xbox (the one that used to be yours) using your gamertag

Your children will not be able to play the games on the second Xbox which is now yours.

This is the best outcome you can hope for (do not run license transfer tool)

---------------

(backup your game saves from your first Xbox that you give to your children. Back them up to a flash pen)

Thanks for this , that makes sense and explains it well . I didnt intend to keep any of the xboxs' . They were both for the children , however they will just have to use one in my account name then , unless I re-buy the games on the new 1 . Thanks for your time . Appreciated .

You need to sign in your account on the second Xbox , then you click on license transfer . This should allow you to play on all accounts on both Xbox

I need to add to post that do not run TF tool was if consoles are to both go be used online or you've split dlc by signing in on a second console and you have taken the first download split the dlc etc & be careful what you delete from old Xbox you've transferred license away from (basically a general warning to read up about it and not to just run it because you can. I' was / am under the impression that if the box you transferred the license away from will only afterwards only allow the purchasing gamertag to run games via being signed in.

Dontasclime is spot on, as he said with a game you get 2 licenses. One which links the game to the FIRST console it is downloaded to (which every gamertag on that xbox can play) and the other which links it to the gamertag that purchased it (and only that person can play it but on any xbox as long as they are signed in with their gamertag).

We had a family xbox (lets call this xbox A), then my son bought his own xbox which only he plays (xbox B).
So when we buy games we buy them on xbox A using my sons (who is the user of xbox b) gamertag and download them. After that he can go on his xbox and download them again for him to play. We do the same with any dlc etc

As a non techy mom I didnt realise this at first and just bought them on my gamertag and faced the same situation as you when we got the extra xbox. I now buy games on my sons gametag using the set up above and now both boys can play the game.

On the xbox one it works better than this. By nominating each others xbox one as their 'home xbox' all can play on both xbox ones.

I would agree with this. We left everything pre second xbox as it was

I believe if you load / recover the kids and your accounts to the second xbox. Then log in on controller 1 with your account & one of the kids on the 2nd controller. Start to download again from your profile but as it is downloading log out of your profile but leave the 2nd controller logged in. When complete log out with both. log in to yours on controller 1 & the other kids account on controller 2. With controller 1 choose to redownload &again log out controller 1 during download so that controller 2 is still logged in. Wait to finish download. I am told all 3 accounts will then be able to access the downloaded content

I've been through this recently myself.
As Summerjoo says, the GT that bought the game can play it on any XBox, plus anyone on the first XBox you download it to can play.
You can transfer licenses from one Xbox to another but only once every three months.
I inadvertently transferred my licenses to our second XBox last month meaning I can't push them back to the main one until January.
