My car indicators are not working properly. If I indicate left it might start clicking right and vica versa, or not click at all. I'm unsure as to why but I did have my drivers side window replaced two days ago. Also my car is overdue a service (but booked for Friday) and it stalls sometimes when slowing down over a hump or hill.
I'm hoping mechanic or not you lovely people can help me as I don't want to take it to a garage. Chances are I'll get ripped off or these issues are easily resolved.
Thanks in advance.
P.s the coolant level is also low but I will be topping that up, does that cause any of the above?

Could have an electrical problem and blocked fuel pipes, crap spark plugs, fuel pump, it could be anything.

Don't you have a family member who is handy with car's ?

I'm not entirely sure why you wouldn't get whoever is doing your service to sort out these problems. It doesn't really sound road worthy at the moment and after your great insurance debacle I'd be tempted to get a local recommendation for a garage or mechanic rather than trying diy. I'm not sure your insurance company would be so lenient again if you caused an accident by dodgy indication.
Also, how can you not know why you had a side window replaced, it's not something that you would do unless there was a problem, did your electrical problems start then, maybe it's connected.

I know why my window was replaced, it was smashed. I'm unsure as to whether therein lies the blame for the indicators. I remember the gentleman who replaced the glass telling me how it took a while to replace the glass because he had to take the door apart and redo the electrics. A small possibility that he didn't do his job properly and wiring is messed up.

I wish I'd learnt something from him. I really don't know much about cars and the rest of my family are no better.

I have always been told different things by different mechanics. Once went to get my engine shield fixed, the mechanic then told me my clutch and flywheel needed replacing and it would not manage a further 20 miles. I had that car for a further 2 years without a problem. Then another mechanic at the mot centre failed my car for tracking but another mechanic told me that was fine but would need new brake discs. I'm sure there are some very good mechanics out there, I just have not had the pleasure.

Just a note to OP

After reading your previous history I would offer you this warning

If you have a fault with your indicators that are not functioning correctly then do not drive it any more until it is fixed

If you read the Highway Code and your insurance policy you will find comments such as "you must ensure your vehicle is fit and safe to drive" failing to do so could put you and other road users at risk.
If you have an accident whilst knowing you have a fault with your indicators then your insurance company could invalidate your cover

Yes thanks. I was actually driving at the time, luckily I managed to get home without the need for indicators. I am always worried about things going wrong with my car but something like this never crossed my mind. I'm going to ask a neighbour a few doors down to have a look, hopefully he'll help me get to the bottom of it.

Thank you very much, sounds just like my issue. I think the electrics are the problem. It was national windscreens who replaced the glass so I will be giving them a call. I should have checked the job over before the guy left but he seemed so nice and it was very cold that day so I just signed and off he went. I did notice that my central locking button was not put back in straight, but it still operated so I thought nothing of it.

Cutting out will probably be something to do with a sensor, i'e map sensor, throttle position sensor etc.. Might even be a vacuum leak on a breather pipe or something like that. Could be anything.

It will need a proper diagnostics.

The indicators are probably part of the bcm module along with the windows and r/c/locking.

I've had some weird and wonderful things happen when a central locking motor went faulty on a rear door on my old car.

Dealer level diagnostics will help solve the problems.

I think you and flaming. H got it. I turned the car on again to check and they are working fine. Definitely the window replacement but I'll get that confirmed and ask how much it costs. If its a considerable amount then I'll call national windscreens. Thanks.

The saying 'misery loves company' describes me to a T! But I will update as soon as it's fixed hopefully.
