Hi all, just picked up an old blue version of it and wondering what are the essential games, accesories and deals for this console. All I have is a charger and Mario 2. Cheers

Nintendo released a lot of games in their 'Selects' range last year, they are usually cheaper than the original print versions.

Does any ds title work in a 3ds xl?
Should I get an sd card?
#5
Any title will work. I've never bothered with extra cards in any ds console :)
#6
Zelda Link Between Worlds is great if you like that sort of thing. Animal Crossing is fun even for grown ups.

Thanks guys

You need an SD card for some 3DS games because they create data on it in order to run. Off the top of my head Pokemons and Smash Bros need one.

These will keep you busy for a long while :D

MicroSD cards are cheap enough that you may as well pick up a slightly larger one, if you intend to make any significant use of digital download games. Any make of card should be fine.

I'd say Bravely Default if you like RPGs.

I heard that you should play Ocarina of Time before the other Zelda games on 3ds. Especially if you are new to the series.
Also, I reccomend Fire Emblem Awakening, I prefer it to Fates, only half way through though :(

And once you've bought a few of those games you will also likely want one of these...

You can't go wrong with any of the 3DS Zeldas, to be honest (even Triforce Heroes has its charms), but HUKD only allows five images per post and ALBW is my pick of the bunch :p As a primarily 2D game, it's arguably more approachable to newcomers that OOT is, too.

That's fair enough on Fire Emblem - again, they're all excellent anyway!

Get a vinyl skin to cover your console, if not after a few hours of play it will become greasy and scummy and look and feel like crap. Click

A link between worlds
Starfox 3D
Final fantasy: theatrhythmn
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Tales of the Abyss
Kid Icarus
Majoras Mask
Ocarina of Time

Those would be my essential games.

Yep, A Link Between Worlds.

All of the above but three essential games no one mentioned...
Luigi's Mansion 2
Shovel Knight
Terraria

You may also want to consider getting a Circle Pad Pro, its an accessory which adds a second thumb stick to your 3DS.

I own one and I don't actually use it for the second stick but I really like that it enhances the grip, basically turns your 3DS into a gamepad. I think I got it for around £12 when it was on offer a while back.

Highly recommend it if you are playing for long periods of time. Note that it will make your 3DS a little bigger though.

Also if you have an older 3DS you could look at installing custom software/flash cards if your into that sort of thing. Not sure which version you need now but mine is on 4.0 and I can use a gateway card.

Just a note on this - I think that you're right in your assumption that this is an original model 3DS XL, but if it's a New 3DS XL then the Circle Pad Pro isn't relevant as this functionality is built-in (there also aren't many games that support it).

Also if you have an older 3DS you could look at installing custom software/flash cards if your into that sort of thing. Not sure which version you need now but mine is on 4.0 and I can use a gateway card.
Please don't do this - theft, of games or otherwise, is never a good thing.
