Long story short

ported my Father's number from GiffGaff to Life mobile

all was planned to go through yesterday, and his GG sim died very early about 9am

but Life sim did nit come back till later in teh day .... all normal .... but he can make calls and send SMS and caller ID shows the ported in number - so thta side works - but he cannot receive calls or SMS. When calling his old number I get the message that teh number is not recognised. Also his temporary Life Mobile number is dead.

Spoke with Life today via live chat and they say it sounds like a "partial port" and they will look into it.

Has anyone heard of such a thing and if so did it get resolved? Life say it may take up to 5 days to fix !!!

thanks in advance

If your using an iPhone you might need to change the displayed number in settings. If so let me know and I'll guide you through it

I had a partial port issue some years ago transferring a number from Vodafone to Giff Gaff
It just means all the transfer boxes have not been ticked, one of the steps is missing. It did get resolved after a few days although it's a pain in the backside in the meantime

Happened to me porting from O2 to talk talk mobile, in the end the tech team had to escalate it to the porting team. Got fixed after about a week. Could make calls & use internet during the issue but couldn't receive calls or texts.

It basically means the Port didn't complete fully. A partial port is just a fancy term.

So you will be making calls etc on New sim no probs but all incoming is going to the old sim if i remember right or to nothing.

All you can do is raise the issue and wait im afraid.
Takes a few days and your new company is supposed to raise it for you.
Between themselves they fix it.

If it takes more than 5 days demand compensation.

yep, had this myself when porting a number from talktalk to life. Rectified itself next day though, and phone needed turning off and on again.

Happened to my wife recently when she went from Life to EE. She could only receive any calls from EE and not from any other network or landline. Took about 2 weeks to realise there was a problem as all of us are on the same network. Had to go to second line support to resolve. Told it was a partial port.

I had this problem a few weeks ago and reported it on the mega SIM only thread. Apparently, if you are porting from one provider to another who piggybacks the same network, as I did from TPO to Life (both use EE) then the number port takes longer (!!!) - in my case, I think it was four days and it couldn't have been a less convenient four days.

Incidentally, Life has just been acquired by Plusnet (subsidiary of BT) so Plusnet phone and broadband customers are to get double data deals, apparently; i.e. double the tariff's data allowance.

Get on to syniverse, have a moan directly to them.

thanks all for the replies

it was a port from Giffgaff (O2) to Life (EE) so should have been simple !

but to be fair to Life Mobile they picked the issue up quickly and escaltaed to their "operations team" ...it looks like it is sorted now .... just tried the old number and it works both in and out !!

Happened with a EE to Three port for a friend earlier in the year, incoming calls when to the old EE sim, outgoing calls from the Three sim showed the old number though so it was split between the two.
