Anyone here get their PS3 from Dixons?

If you did, did you receive the free HDMI lead? And if so, was it inside the PS3 box itself or just in the outer brown cardboard box?

Mine ain't turned up and they are not cheap!

Mine arrived on Saturday afternoon. And no HDMI cable in the box.

I can't actually remember if I was promised an HDMI cable when I ordered it from them, or it that was included in the deal after I ordered from them...

D'oh.

But I only paid £390 for mine since I got the £15 off + 5% Egg card discount.

I *am* due to receive a 10% off 'anything' voucher within 10 days, however.

Anyone else get their HDMI cables or not?

the HDMI offer replaced the 10% off - so if you got a 10% off next order voucher you wont get a lead. It wont have been in the PS3 box - none of them ship with one. You can actually get them a lot cheaper on the internet or ebay - as its a digital signal the quality of the cable is Less important.

Thanks dannyb

I couldn't actually remember what the deal included. I was happy to get the console for the (still not cheap) discounted price. I already knew that Sony (stingey gits) didn't supply one with their £425 console.

Still, I've been looking for a hi def player to go with my new lcd tv, and this seemed like the best bet. Could've got the xbox 360 hdd player to go with my 360, but another console to feed seemed the most fun option!

Gotta catch 'em all!

I've been trying to pick an HDMI lead up in my local Sainsbury's, since they were doing them for £1.99! Not surprisingly they're sold out right now, but awaiting stock sometime this week. So I won't be getting one of these:

Honestly, how do they sleep at night!

sony wont cover your warranty if you dont buy the official sony hdmi cables, so dont look for the cheap ones becasue if your ps3 blows or something happens to god forbid you wont be covered.
#5
How would they know? I could just say I have a Sony lead.
#6
because they will want the hdmi cable and ps3 for inspection.

Surely they'd have no right to ask for the cable to inspect if they didn't supply it
#8
Of course they couldn't. That's nonsense. Dixons would just replace it.

They (Dixons) sent me an email apologising and saying they've passed it to Head Office to arrange to send me one. Wonder how long that will take - I'm not impressed based on the big deal they're making of the free HDMI. Just check their homepage www.dixons.co.uk.

what a load of rubbish. Its a HDMI lead its not gonna make it blow up. THird parties have been producing scart/component for use with consoles for years and not voiding warrantys. All you need to be careful of is if you want to make most of PS3 1080p output etc and you have a good enough TV you need a HDMI 1.3 lead.

i didnt want to take the risk of getting my ps3 blown which i payed a lot of money for, if i knew i wouldnt have bought the offical hdmi cable.

Honestly the crap about voiding warranty is a cash cow for Sony - only an idiot would think a cable would invalidate things, it's an output for **** sake!
It can't physically affect things - the only affect it could have is slight degradation of signal (and I mean slight and affecting almost solely sound as sound is analogue.. digital is either there or not!).
Sony can't make an unreasonable term else the HDMI cables should be in the box for ALL ps3s - else product simply isnt fit for purpose and I for one have never seen an advert saying it needed something else sold separately. They also cannot take something else for testing - Would you supply your TV too? Or your wall perhaps in case your plug is faulty?

the guy from sony centre told me that is what it says on the T&C's of the warranty. ahh well i cant return it now
#14
I somehow doubt it is in there - and wouldnt be valid unless brought to buyers attention before they buy a ps3 (else its not a valid exclusion as no constructive notice)... and even if it was it certainly isn't reasonable. It is probably a little late now though.

Tosh! Sony get enough bad publicity as it is , can't see them wanting this to appear on watchdog, M$ would have a field day with that one!

No way thats true - the guy at the sony centre was probably trying to get you to buy the official sony 1.3 HDMI lead which is pricy as thats the latest spec. its no differnt than every dvd or vcr manufactorer semanding you use a specific scart lead or composite lead etc to connect it to your TV. Power lead I can understand but not vidoe leads - and nothing referring to it in the warranty I've read. You only need the official one or a 1.3 one if your TV can do 1080p and has a 1.3 HDMI port as well.
