Hi all, I'm after any advice from anyone who has had a silverfish problem and have managed to sort it, we don't get many but it's about 5 or 6 a night and they always seem to be in the same area (my rug in the dining room) .
I usually just kill them but the numbers Don't seem to be diminishing.

Silverfish like damp areas don't they? Have you tried airing the rug? If it's on a hard floor, it may be holding moisture!

When I was renting if I got up in the middle of the night and tuned the light on it would look like the carpet in the lounge was alive !!! Only saw a couple in the bathroom during the day ... I tried everything !! In the end my landlord had to get to the back of the bath panel and where it was piped...he got something off Internet to fumigate them .... Whatever it was it worked !!!! He did get rid of the carpet on lounge also and replaced with laminate but never saw another silverfish all the time Ives there!! Sorry not much help but don't waste money on all the toxic silver fish sprays I spent a fortune and I never saw any difference!! Good luck

Silverfish are not great problem, but if you want deter them wash the area with a strong scented solution. Best option for these and ants if to boil up some lemon juice and if they are coming in from out side then just drop a line of washing up liquid down.

I come across these every now and then in my bathroom but I have no idea what the source is. So I'm stuck really.

^^ this ^^ >>> damp dark places

Saw a silverfish in the airing cupboard on clean bedding. Stripped out all the items and re-washed them all whilst the laundry was drying I aired out the airing cupboard and used dehumidifier to remove any excess damp - haven't had any recurrence of silverfish.

Years ago we had silverfish in an "older" house and the dampcourse was not brilliant. We got rid of the silverfish by putting a bowl of beer out for a few nights - they are attracted to the barley and alcohol and will drown in it, You need to repeat it for a few weeks so that when the eggs hatch, you also get the new batch.
