Hi I need to install a kitchen extractor fan.

I want to know if it is possible to put a big 10 inch really powerful one on a dimmer switch or similar so that it is on really quite generally but really powerful when needed.

I found with the cooker hood type we used to have it was generally to noisy to ever actually get used and only did cooker not entire kitchen etc.

Thanks in advance.

You can get fans with a variable speed controller. I think a dimmer would work with some fans but not all.
Be best to get the variable control one as they are designed for it. :)

Dimmer will cause overheating of the fan. Get a controller for motor.

You can also buy almost silent running fans nowadays with a variable speed control built in.
