go back to the shop, tell them what it says and worst case scenario get your money back.

Can I ask what you plan on doing with such an old machine?

Wherever you bought it, was it described as having a System installed? (Or System Discs), If so then it's not been installed properly and just ask for System Discs or if local, take it back as ibblackberry1 says. (They can either reinstall or refund?)

Any particular reason you ask? As we use G5s and may be able to let you know what you might want to know about them.

I would check Ebay for some old 10.5 install discs, there are a few auctions without bids.

As for other software to install afterwards, have a look here.

Probably because it is a dead platform. The G5 PowerMac is the Blackberry Playbook of workstations, great hardware but no new mainstream software.

The only reason to buy one nowadays, is because you have a specific requirement and the PPC Mac/available software will do the job and you know that you have no need for future updates/alternatives or in deed write your own software for it.

If you want to tinker with a Mac, buy the cheapest Intel Mac Mini/Macbook you can find.

As, it's usually/used to be, the most expensive version to buy SH, I would consider 10.4 (Tiger) instead as an alternative and/but depends on what it's to be used for. (Graphics/Music Production/General? etc) and any legacy SW that might be needed/used.

And 'no new mainstream software' doesn't make it any less usable but still wondering why Nnata was curious....

I have no idea why I bought it, however it has a 1.5tb hard drive and 8gb ram, would you be interested in buying?
