Apple Store or O2? Purchasing an iPhone

Heya, I'm trying to work out if there is any real difference from buying an iPhone from an apple store (like Regent Street in London) or an O2 official retailer.

Are there any benefits or downsides, I'd think that O2 would be heavily working on commission?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

It's the same price at O2, Apple and Carphone Warehouse.

I mean is there any difference in service, I think the apple store offered some training or something, not that I'll need it.
#3
Oh ok. O2 would probably get you setup quicker in store. Apple "geniuses" may give you a few pointers but to be honest there's not that much to learn on these things. Kinda pick up and play.

Thanks for your opinion :D

how did your order go? chichard

i would like to know how the online transaction went because i could be ordering one soon.
#9
Can't buy the iphone though o2 online. Only place you can buy online is through Carphone Warehouse. £45 Quidco available for doing so.

I failed at buying the iPhone from an O2 store! I cancelled the transaction after hearing the following:

They said there was a 14 day time limit from the point of purchasing the phone to getting/using my PAC code from Vodafone to keep my old number.

The fact is I need to give the 30 days notice on Vodafone sim-only contract, then request the PAC code towards the end of that month so as to get my monies worth. Can't believe the way the mobile industry works!

Anyone had any bad experiences with Carphone Warehouse, I'd definitely use quidco to purchase through them but want to know about customer service etc.

omg wow re: 14 days ... and the 30 days!

pls keep us updated on the saga of online ordering & quidco

I'm living in hope that i may get out my Three contract early, or at a large discount. Currently being looked in too.

Once i do leave Three, i'll be getting a 16GB iPhone from Carphone Warehouse and collecting my £45 Quidco too :-)

No, i don't, and been hoping someone will give it a go! If you don't get it you can claim for it though and with all my Quidco past claims 90% of them have been successful. I don't see why it wouldn't work though. Clear your cookies. Reload the browser, and go from Quidco, shouldn't be an issue :-)

the porter
loads of folk got their £60 when the 2g 1 was reduced last april from cpw

Yep. Some even got o2 money when activating?! £100 if i remeber. If they activated that is :whistling:

I signed up with Three before and got £80 quidco no problem through Three. And if many of those who bought the 2g iPhone got their £60 then £45 should track fine.

did u mean quidco on Carphone Warehouse is:
£60 for contract (pay monthly) phone sale - on a per transaction basis, not per phone
AND £45 for any contract taken out with the IPhone?

excellent!

Yep, at the time of the 2g iphone going down in price though it was £60. Then if you activated (the old way) with o2 by doing through Quidco correctly you could then get £100... either or anyway!

£45... can't be sniffed at like.

Can't wait to get my iphone

i am looking at the iphone 3g 8gb contract for £35 pm x 18 mths + £100 for phone deal. so i wd go through quidco to carphone warehouse, order the phone and the tariff i need.

hang on. let me try to figure out what you mean ... when u say quidco 02 u mean it's a PAYG so buy phone from carphone warehouse via quidco link, then activate via 02 quidco link? sounds fair to me, but depends what i can get from company deal -- and i get to buy it myself too (yay to company card!)!

will give rep soon as i am able to ....

I have done a fair bit of research on this...

Apple Store > I get discount in store using about 6% on all items but not iphone.

Quidco with CPW seems to be the only way....But the rumours of CPW deal with O2 which talked about Half price tarriff for first 6 months got me running around and asking loads of people even insiders through friends contacts at CPW....None back up that info

But I am sure come xmas or Jan...there would be something of that in the line up.....looking at Apple's strategy of doing something every 12months to their product makes me wanna stay away but cant resist......! So will be ordering this week....Hope the deals that come up soon are not drastically suiting the credit crunched pockets! as I feel extravagant for the time being.

The o2 quidco was only with the 2g iphone i think. The way you activate it now is different. I believe it may actually be when you buy the phone. But pretty sure it can't be done now.

I'm currently in a contract, but yeah, i've been asking about and looking and waiting for this deal to arrive. One interesting thing is that Apple have announced they are cutting production of the iPhone in Q4 this year. Now weather that is to reduce stock for a new model coming out, or indeed a larger capacity model i do not know. 32GB change would be simple enough, would be a case of changing 16GB NANDs to 32GB. Same size i would be sure. So don't think it will be that.

One thing it could be due to it the new EU regulation stating that electronics must have a removeable battery. This means apple will have to change its iPod, and iPhone range to suit this in the EU.

So will they combine these items in to a new iPhone, or just make small changes, who knows. We shall have to wait and see.

The rumours of the price reduction makes me think that a new iPhone may be on the way in the new Year or mid next year, as thats exactly what they did with the 2g iPhone.

As i said i'm currently in a contract still (one which i am fighting to get out due to poor service quality), but if i did get out of it, not sure if i would take the plunge straight away or not. Think i would wait and see what crops up. If deals do pop up then i will be tempted to take it up. If a new iPhone came along after this then i'm sure O2 would do the same deal to customers with iPhones and upgrade as long as you comit to a new contract.

Can only wait and see.

if anyone has done the quidco carphone warehouse for the iphone, can u tell me if it is easy to enter your PAC code online or do you have to call them after you havve purchased to inform them?

Thanks

just regards the removable Battery, all Iphones and Ipods have a removable battery.

Apple offer it as a service, chargeable of course.... Batteries on Iphones and Ipods are designed to last only 500 Full Cycle charges (or is it 750)

after that it just depletes in standby time, apple will provide all official products and not invalidate your warranty.

Is it not £60 Quidco at Carphone?
#24
The battery removal on my ipod nano required a soldering iron!

k guys, i got go-ahead for £45/per month contract with the 8Gb iphone 3G for work - woohooo happy days!

tomorrow: check it out in real at shops, just to get a nice feel to it.

then go to CPW quidco link:
£60 for contract (pay monthly) phone sale - on a per transaction basis, not per phone
+ (maybe) £45 for any contract taken out with the IPhone
Terms: The cashback is only paid out on sales, not on preorders/registrations of the IPhone.

also check some accessories like skins etc
via quidco links of course!

02 quidco link doesnt seem to be worth it:
£35 for Pay Monthly (Contract) (single commission per order basis)
£120 for Mobile Broadband (applies to 18 and 24 months contracts only) <--- dont think this applies.
