hi my kids were given two of the same gifts at christmas. As they were gifts i never received receipts however when i asked for receipts they had been misplaced. The presents were bought from argos and debenhams. Would they entertain me without a receipt? The items are not opened or damaged in any way. I know money back wouldnt be an option but i would be happy exchanging.

If the gifts are exclusive items specifically made or stocked for the shop or department store, they may entertain (highly doubtful) a swap or credit note. Usually though a company insists on proof of purchase i.e. receipt, bill, invoice, credit card slip, Argos stocking code, even bank statement to identify where it was acquired. You can attempt taking the items back, but because so many people have abused the money back, statutory rights, and other reasons nowadays a company has to be careful.

Just take it back to the said stores they will give you vouchers.

I managed to use my click and collect confirmation email as 'proof' of purchase with Argos. I also had a credit card statement matching the amount, but the email was sufficient on it's own.

I returned and got a 3 year old bread bin replaced when the lid broke. It had a 10 year guarantee.

If they are unopened and they can resell them there should be no problem returning.

Argos usually have he item number on the packaging of items so anytime I've ever had to return anything without s receipt, they've been fine.
