The 901 is alot easier to get to live with than the 701. I know as I have both. Certainly, you can watch movies on either machine, but the 901 has over twice the battery life as the 701, so if you will be working in a place where you can't recharge, then it'd be the better option.

If you want to surf then the 901, with its larger screen resolution will certainly feel better. Don't get me wrong, I love my 701 and I use it to surf all the time, but the 901 just feels better.

Also, for no more money, you can get the 901 which runs Windows XP. Now, Linux is great and I use it all the time on the 701, but the simple fact of the matter is that XP is easier to get on with for most people who aren't Linux fiends; You have access to more video codecs and other software such as older PC games will also run on the 901.

Of course, it's almost twice as expensive, so it's really up to you. The 701 will certainly fit the bill for what you want it to do, but the 901 will do it better and more besides.

You might also want to consider some of the competition, such as the Acer Aspire one or the Advent 4211. They all have their merits.

Well XP isn't a problem on the 701 you can quite easierly install it yourself.

The problems with the 701 come in the form of lack of screen size and resolution. There are hacks that increase the resolution of the 701's display but they impair the quality of the display greatly.

It is such a shame the 900 suffers from the same battery drain problems as the 701, the 900 would of been perfect. The 901 seems over priced at the moment, but that doesn't mean I still don't want one :-D

thanks for the indepth reply, worth thinking about, i do like the 901 and the spec, with the higher hdd, and larger screen, which would be my main reason for getting the 901.
had a look at the acer aspire seemed okay but if memory serves me right, hdd isnt as big for the same money.

havent looked at the advent 4211, will have a dig around for that and see what it is like.
