We went for 4 weeks 7th Dec - 3rd Jan to Brisbane, Heron Island and Sydney with my 3 (10,6 and 5). Due to having to sort out loads of visas, passports etc. I missed out on any deals and the trip cost for the 5 of us @£6000 for return flights. We had free accommodation, but I would guess the remainder of our holiday was @ £4000.

Heron Island near Gladstone in Queensland was amazing and really made the experience for the kids. They got to go snorkelling with reef sharks, manta rays and turtles. They also had a ranger club for the kids where they learnt about the islands wildlife. The travel packages are all inclusive and the food is delicious (luxury hotel food).

You could look at https://www.airbnb.co.uk/ for accommodation.

We were dreading the flights but the return journey of 42 hours worked in our favour as we left Brisbane @ 11pm the kids were shattered and slept the whole flight to Kuala Lumpur. We got to KL @ 6am and had 18 hours there, so we went exploring for the day in KL. The flight was that night @ 11.30pm. The kids fell asleep at the airport and then slept all the way to Amsterdam.

I bought trunki cases and a tote for the two little ones and it was ideal.

I had also been warned that the prices were terrible for things but it all seemed comparable to here for a lot of things.

I went in February, flights cost me £550 on my own with Emirates, accommodation was free as above, food cost has got higher lately, i went for 2 weeks, spent around 1200. That was mainly on nights out and clothing mind.

Whitsunday's are amazing if you can go there, and the likes of Australia Zoo etc are also amazing!

Flights are not to bad, just make sure you can amuse yourself for that long, I can't sleep on planes so i had pretty bad jet lag, but after 1 nights sleep i was ok again.

Book a trip, then organise visas to go live there for when you love it :)

Any other questions etc just ask :)

Sod that, I'll stick to Weymouth, kids can look around sealife centre is they want to see fish. Food is perfect @ smugglers inn. Don't do zoo's don't like to see caged animals. Way cheaper, much less hassle. Also not so many Australians.

Another thing in Weymouth's favour is you don't have to worry about spiders the size of Xbox controllers.

I didn't see any spiders or snakes except in the various zoos I visited the whole time I was in Oz.

We went to the Gold Coast last year. There's loads to do for the kids as well as for the young.
