When calling my GP this morning to try and get an appointment, I expected to have to redial multiple times with the line being busy, however, it was over 30 minutes work manually redialling before I finally got through! - and then all appointments for today were already taken!

There doesn't seem to be any built-in auto redial feature on the Moto G, so I installed several auto redial apps, but none of them work...

Some apps are kind enough to mention that for them to work, your phone needs to automatically hang up on a busy signal, however, the Moto G doesn't (well, it does, but it's only after about 30 seconds).

Surely there must be an app (that can hang up) or a way to quickly automatically redial a number? - I have 3 landline phones, but none of them have an auto-redial function either.

I know this is not what your asking but go to the doctors and book. Can be much quicker. We do.. Also I think? Not sure but you are charged, or pay a connection fee even though the line is engaged, so be careful of costs or minutes being used even though you don't get thorough

I've used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roehit89.rohit.redial
on a couple of Android phones and it hangs up at a busy tone (couple of seconds). Not tried on MotoG but can't see why that would be different.
The only thing I can think if it doesn't work is your GP's phone system isn't responding with a busy tone but is diverting to a different handler which plays the same noise - not much you can do there

Can't you just redial the number from your calls log?

I think he's asking for something automated so he can just leave his phone and it does the work for him?

Thanks, but this is one of the apps that I've tried. - It only redials the number about once every 40 seconds... on the Moto G, when the line is busy, the call doesn't auto-hang-up... the call stays active with the busy tone for about 30 seconds before auto hanging-up.

And it's not an issue with my GPs line simulating the busy tone sound... I have been testing apps by picking up my own landline (making it busy) and calling it.

exactly... when I was manually retrying for 30 minutes, it got tiring very fast!... I want to just put it on the desk on loudspeaker and have it auto-redial.

Never tried any apps but if you have a BT landline you can use their auto call back service but it costs you 55p a pop http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8460/~/all-about-ring-back

Thanks, and I also looked into that (even though I don't have a BT line - I'm on cable, virgin media)... apparently a common complaint is that it's slow... even on that page you linked, it has a common question:

"On answering Ring Back I sometimes get an engaged tone. Why?
This indicates that the called party is making a further outgoing call. This is highly likely to happen on busy business lines such as doctors' surgeries etc."

^^ so sounds like it's not much use anyway! - specifically using a GP as an example, lol.

I did go and register for it this afternoon, but mine doesn't offer any same day appointments, only a week+ in advance, unless they appear first thing in the morning for the day... I'll check that tomorrow morning :)
