I dont advise buying one at all-you will only panic at every change in babys heartbeat-we had one just to listen to her heart because we thought it would all be part of the parenthood experience but it will drive you crazy, believe me.

if there is any medical reason you need one the hospital will supply a proper one-if its just "for fun" I seriously advise against it,it will only make you worry.

But if you change your mind there is one that they use in the clinics that you can rent for about £12 a month. I did this about 3yrs ago so cannot for the life of me remember the company - google it though. I'm not a worrier but was just amused listening to the heartbeat and all of the other sounds. Once baby started moving all of the time i had little use - especially as she used to kick it away everytime i'd put the thing on my tum, lol.

It's true though, it really wouldn't be good if you are a worrier.

The one i bought the summer baby heart listener i couldnt hear baby until about 22 weeks but she was kicking well before then so didnt really use it...plus it wasnt very clear and baby had to be in right position so im sure you would worry if you couldnt hear it.

I agree with all of the above! I have heard they can be hard to use and I know I'd panic if I couldn't hear the heartbeat! I believe Angelsounds dopplers are popular but I'm going to stick with just being kicked (which is pretty constant anyway!) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anglesounds-JPD-100S-Fetal-Doppler/dp/B000XS987A
