Wondered if anyone could point me in the way of any decent recommendations for a backpack to take on my travels to Thailand, I am only going for 2 weeks and everyone I am travelling with has agreed we will all take backpacks with us and check them in as we will be visiting a few island, I appreciate it is only a shortish trip and I'm sure a case would suffice but in getting with the travelling mood wanted to get a backpack which I will check into the hold. I'm thinking 45-55L but there are so many options, preferably want to buy one as cheap as possible but equally don't want something that will fall apart if luggage handlers throw it about a bit.

If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

I'd go for second hander on eBay, a lot of travellers have barely used packs going. There isn't much of a market for used backpacks either so you can pick up a bargain if you're patient. If you buy new, and quality, you're looking at £100+, eBay £30.. hope this helps

Thanks for the response, any particular brands you know of that you would recommend I look out for? Have tried to look for second hand on ebay before but hard to know which bags are actually any good.

Thanks

Yeah it's a bit of a minefield, I'm looking out for Kathmandu at the moment. I always think if you Google the name of the backpack and get results from reputable websites you're on for a gooden.

I have something like this for my occasional week in the field or tabbing exercise.

I don't know where to buy one but do stick locks on it wherever you leave it - it's a beautiful and mostly trustworthy country but I had a few things stolen out of my bag when it wasn't locked properly and that was in our room. Have a FANTASTIC time and if you're there during the full moon party, get yourself on Koh Phangan.

If its just 2 weeks you will be fine with a cheep one. I spent £40 on a vango when I started backpacking and it lasted 8 weeks of abuse in Oz. 7 In Nz and a month in Asia.

Just don't get something too flash are you will stick out like a sore thumb!

If you keep an eye out for special offers on North Face or have an outlet nearby these are fantastic.

Can be worn as a backpack, lightweight, resistant to any type of throwing about and mine has been a lot of places, slept on, stood on, fastened to roof of buses, floors of trains, in mud, carried by yaks and it's still in one piece. I got mine for £41 and is the medium size.

I'm off to the local designer outlet in a few weeks so if you want me to look in North Face for you let me know. I don't mind posting to you for if you get stuck.

Safe travels enjoy - if you don't get fixed up and change your mind I'm going on Saturday as I need a new fleece.
